3D may still be perceived by many as a bit of a gimmick, but Sony and many others are banking on it catching on in a big way.<\/p>\n

The two most important things that need to fall into place in order for it to do well are for 3D HD TVs to become the new de facto standard and for there to be enough 3D compatible games released to make it a worthwhile pursuit.<\/p>\n

The TVs have just been launched locally<\/a>, and will inevitably replace non-3D TVs eventually. The next step is software support, and Sony revealed a list of games that will launch 3D capable.<\/p>\n

– Gran Turismo 5<\/p>\n

– Mortal Kombat<\/p>\n

– Shaun White Skateboarding<\/p>\n

– NBA 2K11<\/p>\n

– The Fight: Lights Out<\/p>\n

– Tumble<\/p>\n

– Eye Pet<\/p>\n

– Crysis 2<\/p>\n

– MotorStorm Apocalypse<\/p>\n

– MLB 10 The Show<\/p>\n

– The Sly Collection<\/p>\n

– Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier<\/p>\n

There are also four 3D ready games already available in Sony’s PSN store:<\/p>\n

– PAIN<\/p>\n

– MotorStorm: Pacific Rift<\/p>\n

– Super Stardust HD<\/p>\n

– WipEout HD<\/p>\n

Sony’s presentation at E3 focussed heavily on 3D with Killzone 3 being used as their “technological showpiece.” Attendees watched a demo of the upcoming game through 3D glasses.<\/p>\n

Kazuo Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment’s chairman, said the combination of 3D gaming and the PlayStation Move would result in the closest thing you will ever experience to being in the game yourself.<\/p>\n

“What Avatar did for 3D movies, titles like Killzone 3 will do for games,” he said.<\/p>\n
