Market research company Gfk has finalised its sales stats for March 2014<\/a>, which means we can find out which games have been topping the charts at South African retail for the first quarter of 2014.<\/p>\n

This article looks at PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 titles, and for each month includes both pre-orders and post-launch sales.<\/p>\n

Having launched in South Africa on 13 December 2013, the first three months of the year were all about building game libraries for new PS4 owners.<\/p>\n

It’s unsurprising to see the ever-popular FIFA franchise topping the charts, while rounding out purchases each month were plenty of new releases, including PlayStation exclusives and multi-platform titles.<\/p>\n

Over on PS3 it was a much more tempered affair, with stalwart titles holding strong in the opening months of the year. FIFA 2014, GTA 5, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and The Last of Us all made recurring entries into the chart.<\/p>\n

Top selling games in SA by platform<\/h3>\n

Gfk explained to MyGaming to what degree their sales stats represent the overall SA retail market.<\/p>\n

Gfk spokesperson S\u00f3nia Sengupta said they cover around 90% of the SA gaming retail market, and 95% of the SA gaming consoles retail market.<\/p>\n

Gfk also tracks online retailers, as well as both the physical and online sales of the retailers which have physical and online outlets, said Sengupta.<\/p>\n

The stats presented are gathered on a monthly basis from the retailers with whom Gfk is in partnership.<\/p>\n
