Deus Ex is heralded as a trendsetter in video gaming history. It offered players many ways of tackling a problem while fusing first person shooter gameplay with role-playing game mechanics.<\/p>\n
It’s denoted as simply part of the “Action” genre by Steam, “Action RPG” by Wikipedia, but Ion Storm (the developer) came to call it “The Immersive Sim.”<\/p>\n
It’s certainly not the first game to merge the perspective and action from FPSes with the progressions of RPGs. Some would argue that System Shock 2, also a first person shooter with RPG mechanics released the previous year, is the better game.<\/p>\n
