Lucas Pope, than man behind the hugely successful game Papers, Please<\/a>, has announced his next title.<\/p>\n

Return\u00a0of the Obra Dinn is a 3D first-person mystery set\u00a0on an East Indiaman merchant ship in 1808, and has the look of a black-and-white game from the early Mac OS and DOS days.<\/p>\n

“This’ll be a very different game from anything I’ve done before,” said Pope. “I want to experiment with the rendering, story, and a few technical features. Right now I have only a rough idea about the narrative. I’m hoping to capture a compelling mystery with suspense and twists in the limited space of an old merchant sailing ship. It won’t be the typical ‘collect items and look for clues’ structure.”<\/p>\n

Pope adds that there will be a “slightly cool gameplay hook,” but won’t be detailing it for awhile yet. He estimates that it will take around half a year to develop Obra Dinn.<\/p>\n
