The Sunday Times recently held an event to announce the coolest brands in South Africa based on the results of its annual Generation Next survey, conducted by HDI Youth Marketeers.<\/p>\n

In a press release issued ahead of the event, HDI boss Jason Levin was quoted as saying that the survey has grown to polling over 5,500 South African youths between the ages of 8 and 23.<\/p>\n

Below are is a summary of the “coolest” gaming and tech brands according to the survey.<\/p>\n

Coolest Console\/Computer Game<\/h3>\n

  1. FIFA 14<\/li>\n
  2. Grand Theft Auto<\/li>\n
  3. Need for Speed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Need for Speed has lost its place as second coolest video game to Grand Theft Auto. GTA carries an age restriction of 18 in South Africa, so here\u2019s hoping its popularity is driven by the 18\u201323 year old segment interviewed by HDI.<\/p>\n

    Coolest Hi-Tech Gadget<\/h3>\n

    1. Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PCs<\/li>\n
    2. Xbox<\/li>\n
    3. iPad<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      BlackBerry and the iPhone have dropped out of the top 3 coolest hi-tech gadget rankings, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Xbox stepping in to take their places.<\/p>\n

      Coolest Computer Brand<\/h3>\n

      1. Samsung<\/li>\n
      2. Apple<\/li>\n
      3. Sony<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Apple lost ground to Samsung in the battle for the coolest computer brand. Unfortunately for those youth who love Samsung\u2019s PC brand, the company has announced that it will no longer be selling its notebook computers<\/a> in South Africa.<\/p>\n

        The full results will be published on Sunday, 1 June 2014 as a supplement with the Sunday Times newspaper.<\/p>\n
