Michael\u00a0Thommason, \u00a0the man with the largest video game collection in the world, has sold his 11,000-game pride and joy on auction for $750,250 (\u00b1R8.1 million).<\/p>\n

Thommason put the Guiness World Record collection up for sale earlier this month<\/a>\u00a0with the intent of helping his “immediate family and extended family that have needs that need to be addressed”.<\/p>\n

“While I do not wish to part with these games, I have responsibilities that I have made to others and this auction is how I will help meet them,\u201d said Thommason.<\/p>\n

The collection was bought by an anonymous bidder on GameGavel<\/a>, who put in the final bid just before the auction closed.<\/p>\n

Considering the collection took him 30 years to build, it must have been a sad occasion to let all those pieces of history go. Although, it is not the first time\u00a0Thommason has done so.<\/p>\n

When he got married in 1998 he had to part with a portion of his collection\u00a0to finance his wedding.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sold off complete collections for the Sega Master System and the TurboGrafx-16 to help fund the event. I have since reacquired most of the games over the years, but some titles such as Magical Chase are still elusive, which is even more funny when one considers the name of the game!\u201d<\/p>\n
