Legendary developer Peter Molyneux may be more famous for his big mouth in recent years than actual games. He recently demoed his next big project at the Develop conference in Brighton England.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year he commented that there were some “big changes” headed to Fable III, and that many fans of the series’ fans would be angry. There was talk of the RPG component being stripped away, but few details were ever really shared.<\/p>\n
Based on what he said at the conference, it looks like Lionhead will really be pushing the story this time around. When discussing Fable, he had this to say,”although we took the writing reasonably seriously, we didn’t think of it as a ‘real’ story… I was talking to the press back at E3, and in every interview I gave I asked the press, ‘what was the story in Fable II?’ — and none of them could remember anything about it.” <\/p>\n
This is obviously something they will be looking to address, and it looks like simplicity may be the key: “One of the things that we really wanted to do is have something very clear about the story,” Molyneux continued. “The story in Fable III is this simple: you are going to be a revolutionary, who’s going to overthrow this tyrannical king who’s doing horrible stuff to Albion. You’re going to gather forces, storm the castle, and then become king yourself. I love that, because people are going to remember that.”<\/p>\n
Not only does he want a more memorable story, but he wants the content to be more accessible, revealing that half the people who played Fable II saw less than 60% of the game. In an attempt to rectify this, Lionhead has revamped the user interface. “It was just not good enough in today’s world,” Molyneus said of Fable II’s clumsy UI. <\/p>\n
