Most of us\u00a0have seen the offensively expensive curved UHD TVs on display at our local Dion Wired or electronics store – 105-inches, 4K display, and that elegant curve which seems pointless but which you can’t help but long for.<\/p>\n

With prices easily exceeding R100,000, though, very few of us seriously consider putting one in our living room.<\/p>\n

Curved PC monitors, on the other hand, are a much more affordable option for those who crave some curved screen, and – according to the manufacturers – these displays are even better for gaming.<\/p>\n

Dell and Samsung both recently announced the launch of their new curved gaming PC monitors, and we took this opportunity to gather a few pretty pictures, some price tags, and give you the low-down on what makes these screens special.<\/p>\n

Plus, there is an SA 4K section which follows afterwards – how exciting.<\/p>\n

The curved Samsung 27-inch monitor\u00a0is expected to go on sale from 1 October 2014, and is set to cost\u00a0$429.99. There is no local pricing yet, but expect it to be somewhat expensive.<\/p>\n

The screen is supposed to create a “wider field of view” at 178 degrees, and there is a single button which allows for adjustments to compensate for motion blur, colour, and contrast. The resolution maxes out 1,920×1,080 with an aspect ratio of 16:9.<\/p>\n

Dell 34-inch UHD\u00a0Curved<\/h3>\n

Dell, like Samsung, also promises PC gamers a wider field of view and a better overall experience with its curved PC monitors.<\/p>\n

In Dell’s case, however, the company has paired its rounded screen with UHD resolution.<\/p>\n

The Dell will give you a\u00a03,440×1,440 display at an aspect ratio of 21:9. The screen is due to be released in December 2014, with no retail price set as yet.<\/p>\n

Dell 27-inch 5K<\/h3>\n

For the guy who bought a 4K monitor and though he was the coolest kid on the block, we have some bad news – Dell has made a 5K monitor.<\/p>\n

The 27-inch screen delivers a resolution of\u00a05,120×2,880 across its 27 inches and is expected to go on sale in December 2014. The price? $2,500. Ouch.<\/p>\n

I know what you were all thinking: another article filled with screens not even available in the States and only estimated dollar prices on show. Well, fret not, because as we mentioned earlier we checked out a few local suppliers and rounded up some of the finest “4K” screens we could find.<\/p>\n

(Although for a screen to be called for 4K it needs to have a horizontal resolution of 4,000 pixels, 4K and UHD seem to be used interchangeably these days. Damn marketing people, this is why we have HD-ready, HD, and Full HD TVs.)<\/p>\n
