There’s just one problem: what you gain in portability you lose in graphics processing power.<\/p>\n

Alienware has taken note of this dilemma and come up with a solution – the Graphics Amplifier.<\/p>\n

The Alienware\u00a0Graphics Amplifier has been released alongside the company’s new gaming laptop, the Alienware 13, and essentially provides a desktop GPU for the tiny gaming rig.<\/p>\n

Weighing roughly 3.6kg, the Amplifier supports most graphics cards with a power requirement of up to 375W. It works by plugging into the Alienware 13 laptop via a\u00a0PCI-Express-based cable (which only works with the 13 for the moment) and allows gamers to use the desktop GPU inside it.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Dell said that the Amplifier will not be compatible with older Alienware laptops, and will not work with other laptop brands.<\/p>\n

The price for this mobile engine room? $299, excluding the price of the GPU you want to throw in. It is expected to start shipping in November 2014.<\/p>\n

But wait, you don’t only get a desktop GPU shell for that price, you also get four – count them – FOUR powered USB ports for your keyboard, mouse, and so on. How kind of Alienware.<\/p>\n

Alienware Graphics Amplifier<\/p><\/div>\n

For those interested in the Alienware 13, it comes standard with an Intel i5-4210U 2.4GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M, and a 512GB HDD.<\/p>\n

The screen will offer a 2,560×1,440 display with touch functionality, and a 1080p option\u00a0with no touch functions.<\/p>\n
