Cape Town’s biggest monthly LAN, Organised Chaos, has announced that it will be giving a minimum of R5000 in cash prizes through competitions over the next 6 months. <\/p>\n
While recessionary budget cuts have made securing sponsorships from companies difficult, OC has put up the R5000 in cash for prizes, and is continuing to look for corporate support. <\/p>\n
OC plans to organise “professional” as well as “amateur” sponsorships. Amateur sponsorships are defined as those which provide product prizes, while professional sponsorships consist of cold, hard cash. <\/p>\n
Over the next 6 months, prizes will be awarded as follows:<\/p>\n
1st prize<\/strong> R3000<\/p>\n 2nd prize<\/strong> R1500<\/p>\n 3rd prize<\/strong> R500<\/p>\n The tournaments will be held at the monthly OC LANs, and will require a R25 per player entry fee. The tournaments will start with CoD4 and DotA, and OC wants to focus on one tournament per event. StarCraft II is also a contender for tournament play in the coming months. <\/p>\n By OC’s Dietmar “Treath” RRheeder-Kleist’s own admission, R5000 over 6 months is not a lot of cash. If they do a competition every month, then first place should be R500 each time, second place R250, and third place just under R100, so there is something to play for at least. Furthermore, they are hoping to gain additional support from various companies, so watch this space. <\/p>\n
