The NPD Group’s July 2010 sales tracking stats are in, and the Xbox 360 has taken top spot for the first time since September 2007. Or, perhaps rather more shockingly, ANOTHER PLATFORM HAS OVERTAKEN THE DS. I’m expecting an apocalypse any moment now. <\/p>\n

The recent launch of the New! Improved! Not-so-RRoDy (Maybe)! Xbox 360 S was no doubt responsible for the console’s sales lead, despite dropping 2% since June. All other platforms plunged into double digit drops, proving that nobody buys stuff in July for some reason:<\/p>\n

1. <\/span>360: 444K, down 9K (-2%) <\/p>\n

2. <\/span>DS: 398K, down 113K (-22%) <\/p>\n

3. <\/span>Wii: 254K, down 169K (-40%) <\/p>\n

4. <\/span>PS3: 215K, down 90K (-30%) <\/p>\n

5. <\/span>PSP: 84K, down 37K (-31%)<\/p>\n

On the software charts, the Xbox 360 is also pushing ahead, with four titles in the top ten:<\/p>\n

1. <\/span>NCAA Football 11, 368,000 (360)<\/p>\n

2. <\/span>NCAA Football 11, 298,800 (PS3)<\/p>\n

3. <\/span>Crackdown 2, 208,800 (360)<\/p>\n

4. <\/span>Super Mario Galaxy 2, 193,000 (Wii)<\/p>\n

5. <\/span>LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, 141,700 (DS)<\/p>\n

6. <\/span>Red Dead Redemption, n\/a (360)<\/p>\n

7. <\/span>LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, n\/a (Wii)<\/p>\n

8. <\/span>Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, n\/a (DS)<\/p>\n

9. <\/span>New Super Mario Bros., n\/a (Wii)<\/p>\n

10. <\/span>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, n\/a (360)<\/p>\n

Although NPD Group only tracks console and portable SKU sales, it’s also probably worth mentioning that StarCraft II managed to push 721K sales in the last five days of July. And they said PC gaming was dead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
