South Africa’s top DSL data users consumed over 5 terabytes (5,000GB) of data per account per month in 2014. This emerged from feedback from some of South Africa’s largest Internet Service Providers (ISPs).<\/p>\n

According to information from Web Africa, Cybersmart, and Openweb, many DSL subscribers consume more than 1TB of data per month.<\/p>\n

Most of these high-end subscribers use uncapped DSL accounts. However, some subscribers used capped accounts with free after-hours data to notch up terabytes of downloads.<\/p>\n

Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov explained that a handful of the top users are running wireless ISPs while using load-balanced ADSL lines for backhaul capacity.<\/p>\n
