Fans of the series needn&rsquo;t worry because Microsoft intends to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mygaming.co.za\/news\/news\/4590-Halo-franchise-run-until-2015-least.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Halo franchise to run until 2015 at least\">milk the franchise<\/a> for as long as it is viable.<\/p>\n<p>The beta has long since been closed &ndash; 2.7 million gamers took part in the testing phase, logging 16 million hours of play time and tallying up 1.1 billion kills. The game is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mygaming.co.za\/news\/xbox\/6135-Halo-Reach-release-date-announced.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Halo: Reach release date announced\">scheduled for release<\/a> on 14 September 2010, and by all accounts, it is set to knock the socks off Halo 3 and Halo: ODST.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Jarrard from Bungie unveiled a video at Gamescom 2010 which shows off the opening cinematic from Halo: Reach. The game is set as a prequel to the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. There will be a whole new set of characters and heroes to become familiar with, as Master Chief has yet to make his mark. The opening cinematic briefly introduces these characters, and sets up the game&rsquo;s plot &ndash; the primary relay station on planet Reach has gone offline, and a team is dispatched to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>The video also shows off some gameplay, which will look familiar to fans of the series.
