There’s a new video up on the PlayStation Move blog<\/a>. Once again Anton Mikhailov is showing off some of the tricks the Move has up its sleeve. <\/p>\n

The Move is shown performing admirably in some gameplay sequences, without any negative reaction to the numerous flat panels in the background. The video is all very interesting, but it’s not really anything we haven’t seen before. In the ‘comments’ section below the blog post, some interesting details on the Move design process emerged.<\/p>\n

Mikhailov explained why, unlike the Wiimote, the Move will not feature a built-in speaker. “Whilst aware of some of the creative uses that the speaker affords, in the end we found that the applications are fairly limited, and the cost saved was substantial.”<\/p>\n

“Using an analog stick while you’re moving in 3D is actually not very intuitive,” said Mikhailov, who continued by explaining that a quality analog control stick “adds quite a bit of cost to the device, and since it wouldn’t be used often that might not be justified.”<\/p>\n

It’s the same story for the lack of motion control in the separate ‘Nav’ controller, which is the analog sub-controller for the Move wand. “We felt that to be completely compatible with the Dualshock we shouldn’t allow motion, since you might not be able to do it holding the Dualshock in one hand,” said Mikhailov.<\/p>\n

“With just accelerometers and gyros you wouldn’t be able to do as much as the Move can, so it’s a bit of an inconsistent experience. And of course, it makes the Nav cheaper while having room for other features like the rechargeable battery and wireless.”<\/p>\n
