Yesterday we reported<\/a> that as things currently stand, South Africa is not on the grid to receive regional dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops PC.<\/p>\n

A company called Gameservers has obtained<\/a> exclusive provider rights for the servers, and as things stand currently, they have no presence in SA. This means that unless they set up shop here, we will not be able to play this game online with local latencies. MyGaming emailed Gameservers, and was told the following:<\/p>\n

“I’m afraid we do not have a datacenter in that region at this time. We are looking to open new locations were there is high demand, but I don’t have any specific information as to if\/when we would be doing so in the region.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Black Ops is two months away, so the chances of them getting servers up and running in South Africa by then seem quite slim, even if they do decide to put SA on their role-out plan. We are aware that certain local gaming service providers are currently looking into the matter, however, nothing can be confirmed at this time.<\/p>\n

There is hope, however, and the best thing that an ordinary South African gamer can do at this point is to go to the Gameservers Black Ops page<\/a>, and suggest SA as a new location by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. South Africa is already one of the seven shortlisted locations on the drop down list which means that Gameservers is at least aware of our region. <\/p>\n

Update<\/strong><\/p>\n

A user report has come in, claiming that he received the following response from Gameservers:<\/p>\n

“We are currently looking into this as there is indeed a high demand.”<\/em><\/p>\n
