{"id":75688,"date":"2015-05-19T07:30:45","date_gmt":"2015-05-19T05:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=75688"},"modified":"2015-05-19T11:11:02","modified_gmt":"2015-05-19T09:11:02","slug":"ready-sony-had-no-idea-bloodborne-would-sell-so-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/playstation\/75688-ready-sony-had-no-idea-bloodborne-would-sell-so-well","title":{"rendered":"Sony had no idea Bloodborne would sell so well"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an interview with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcvuk.com\/news\/read\/playstation-s-gara-talks-price-wars-bloodborne-no-man-s-sky-and-black-friday\/0149460\" target=\"_blank\">MCVUK<\/a>, UK MD for Sony, Fergal Gara, claims that Sony had no idea <em>Bloodborne<\/em> would sell so well\u2026 yeah, sure you didn\u2019t Fergal.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re fairly sure that the hordes of gamers frothing at the mouth for <em>Bloodborne<\/em> was a pretty obvious indicator for anticipation and excitement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It did surprise us,<\/em>\u201d says Gara. \u201c<em>We had expectations to do well. We looked at the Souls series as a frame of reference, and we thought we could do better than that. We did \u2013 and then some. Relative to some of our sister territories, we were being quite ambitious, but even that proved to be conservative.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t think <em>Bloodborne\u2019s<\/em> sales could have gone any other way. Think about it, how many real top-tier games are there to compete with <em>Bloodborne<\/em>? Very few, if any.<\/p>\n<p>With nothing else to buy, of course gamers are going to buy the game Sony marketed the absolute hell out of.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I think Bloodborne might have just landed just at the right time; it was a relatively quiet time, it was a very high quality title and a great platform differentiator for us. We were caught a little bit behind in terms of the volume, but we were able to chase it and maximise its potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Bloodborne<\/em> is still number 33 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chart-track.co.uk\/index.jsp?c=p\/software\/uk\/latest\/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015\" target=\"_blank\">UK sales charts<\/a>, an impressive feat for a niche exclusive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep you in the dark.
