Nvidia recently\u00a0unveiled\u00a0its latest gaming graphics powerhouse \u2013 the GeForce GTX 980 Ti.<\/p>\n

The emergence\u00a0of the GTX 980 Ti follows the\u00a0recent release\u00a0of the GTX 960, 970, 980, and Titan X cards, with the Ti punted as\u00a0delivering\u00a0\u201can unbeatable 4K and virtual reality experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

4K gaming \u2013\u00a03840 x 2160 \u2013 and virtual reality are the latest benchmarks in PC gaming, and Nvidia\u2019s GTX 980 Ti is set to target those who want both.<\/p>\n

At R11,999 for an MSI or Gigabyte version of the card, gamers will ask themselves whether the price is worth the performance gains, though.<\/p>\n

Performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Nvidia\u2019s promise of \u201cnew levels of performance and capabilities\u201d was tested by hardware specialists Digital Foundry<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and Anandtech<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0which put the card\u00a0through its paces at high resolutions.<\/p>\n

The Digital Foundry tests were run in 4K, and used a gaming rig sporting\u00a0an Intel Core i7-4790K (overclocked to 4.6GHz) and 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM.<\/p>\n

The card\u2019s frame rate performance is detailed in the table below.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, Rebel Tech and Evetech only had two version of the 980 Ti for sale \u2013 both R11,999. Wootware was offering the same\u00a0cards at a slightly cheaper price, as shown below.<\/p>\n

The MSI\u00a0Gaming 6G version<\/h3>\n

One version of the GTX 980 Ti which is yet to receive local pricing is the MSI Gaming 6G version of the card.<\/p>\n

Besides the aesthetic improvements to the standard design of the Ti and clock frequency boosts, MSI has incorporated its\u00a0Twin Frozr cooling to give gamers better heat management with less noise.<\/p>\n
