{"id":77154,"date":"2015-06-12T12:00:41","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=77154"},"modified":"2015-06-12T16:33:16","modified_gmt":"2015-06-12T14:33:16","slug":"heres-whos-getting-fibre-to-the-home-in-joburg-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/broadband\/77154-heres-whos-getting-fibre-to-the-home-in-joburg-next","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s who&#8217;s getting Fibre-to-the-home in Joburg next"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bryanston South Fibre Committee (BSFC) has invited network infrastructure players to bid on rolling out fibre-to-the-home services in its\u00a0neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>It joins suburbs such as Parkhurst, Parkview, and Constantia in inviting network services to roll out in their areas, rather than waiting\u00a0for\u00a0an FTTH provider to\u00a0come to them.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0spokesperson for the BSFC said it is an informal group made up of residents who came together because they were \u201csick and tired\u201d of ADSL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no residents\u2019 association or official body, hence they have come forward from the relevant security and community groups we have,\u201d the BSFC said.<\/p>\n<p>The committee consists of 7 members, three of whom\u00a0volunteered to be the adjudication committee to compare\u00a0and\u00a0select the provider for the fibre\u00a0project.<\/p>\n<p>They are: Liz Edwards, Peter Elliot, and John van der Munckhof.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Price survey<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_77160\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bryanston-South-fibre-network-price-survey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77160\" class=\"wp-image-77160\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bryanston-South-fibre-network-price-survey.jpg\" alt=\"Bryanston South fibre network price survey\" width=\"600\" height=\"940\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-77160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bryanston South fibre network price survey. Image courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/129134-fibre-to-the-home-for-more-joburg-suburbs.html\" target=\"_blank\">MyBroadband<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Like the projects that came before it, the BSFC launched a survey to find out from residents whether they would be interested in a fibre service, and what they would be willing to pay.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the 70 respondents, over 80% of residents were willing to pay between R499 and R1,499 per month for a 50Mbps line with 200GB of data.<\/p>\n<p>The committee asked residents who haven\u2019t filled out the survey yet to please <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/H2BFN59\">do so to improve the chances of a rapid roll-out<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">What\u2019s next?<\/h3>\n<p>According to the BSFC, seven companies have confirmed that they will submit proposals before the 12 June deadline.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>123Net<\/li>\n<li>Dark Fibre Africa<\/li>\n<li>Greencom<\/li>\n<li>Light Fibre<\/li>\n<li>Frogfoot and Link Africa (as a joint venture)<\/li>\n<li>Telkom<\/li>\n<li>Vumatel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe BSFC has also met both Frogfoot &amp; Link Africa and Vumatel to discuss their models and proposals as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The committee will review the proposals after 12 June, with a commitment to announce the winning company by 28 June.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_77158\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bryanston-South-fibre-network-footprint.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77158\" class=\"wp-image-77158 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bryanston-South-fibre-network-footprint.jpg\" alt=\"Bryanston South fibre network footprint\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-77158\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bryanston South fibre network footprint.
