Microsoft\u2019s journey to world domination is showing no signs of slowing down, as the tech giant is reportedly on the verge of purchasing chip manufacturer AMD.<\/p>\n
According to reports, Microsoft and AMD have actually been in talks for a few months already. The two companies have been working together for quite some time, specifically with the manufacturing of Xbox consoles.<\/p>\n
In fact, Microsoft is said to pay AMD around $100 (R1,220) per Xbox One sold, which currently tops out at $1.26 billion paid to AMD for lifetime sales of the console.<\/p>\n
The move would be a pretty smart choice by Microsoft, given that AMD is currently worth $1,81 billion, which may sound like a ridiculous amount, but in Microsoft\u2019s world, it\u2019s pocket-change. The one-time purchase could save Microsoft close to a billion dollars every year (depending on Xbox sales).<\/p>\n
Even better for Microsoft, is that the takeover would also mean that Microsoft would begin earning money on every Playstation console sold. Additionally, Microsoft would have unlimited access to chips and new technologies to power their range of products and mobile devices.<\/p>\n
