{"id":78558,"date":"2015-07-15T10:30:25","date_gmt":"2015-07-15T08:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=78558"},"modified":"2015-07-15T10:44:17","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T08:44:17","slug":"5-short-but-sweet-gaming-adventures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/features\/78558-5-short-but-sweet-gaming-adventures","title":{"rendered":"5 short but sweet gaming adventures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While many may argue that every game should be as long as possible, length does not a good game make.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, some experiences stay beyond their welcome,\u00a0so we decided to pay tribute to those short but sweet gaming experiences that keep us coming back time and time again.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Mirror&#8217;s Edge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>EA&#8217;s ambitious and innovative roll-of-the dice with <em>Mirror&#8217;s Edge<\/em> paid off, despite being rather brief.<\/p>\n<p>The free-running game proved that first-person platforming can be fluid, effective and incredibly fun.<\/p>\n<p>The colourful yet minimalist world is gorgeous to look at, and although it left us wanting more, there&#8217;s multiple ways to finish each level, giving the game a lot of replayability. And there are always those time trial levels.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to seeing how the sequel expands on the world and gameplay of <em>Mirror&#8217;s Edge<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mirrors-Edge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mirrors-Edge.jpg\" alt=\"Mirror's Edge\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mirror&#8217;s Edge<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>The Order: 1886<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Easily the most beautiful game on the PlayStation 4 (so far at least), <em>The Order: 1886<\/em> is a breathtaking technical marvel from developer Ready at Dawn.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s short, very short, but given the impeccable level of detail, it&#8217;s understandable.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Order<\/em> not only features spectacular visuals, but it also has some fun gunplay, unique weapons and an interesting story. It&#8217;s definitely worth a playthrough if you can find a good deal.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/THE-ORDER-1886.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/THE-ORDER-1886.jpg\" alt=\"The Order: 1886\" width=\"600\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Order: 1886<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>House of the Dead: Overkill<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u2018Overkill\u2019 couldn\u2019t be a more suitable subtitle for SEGA\u2019s Wii-exclusive <em>House of the Dead<\/em> title.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is its gore and violence over-the-top, its swearing, guns, dialogue, story and just about everything else is beyond any doubt an overkill.<\/p>\n<p>Designed as an on-rails shooter using the Wii\u2019s motion controllers, it\u2019s a surprising game for the platform, but it\u2019s also an adrenaline, laughter and gore fueled romp featuring a ton of crazy zombies, and you can\u2019t go wrong with that.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s over before you&#8217;d want the fat zombie-lady to sing, but it&#8217;s one hell of a ride while it&#8217;s going.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/House-of-the-Dead-Overkill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/House-of-the-Dead-Overkill.jpg\" alt=\"House of the Dead: Overkill\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">House of the Dead: Overkill<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Vanquish<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In Platinum Games&#8217; <em>Vanquish<\/em>, you play as a super soldier on rocket-powered roller skates that moves from cover to cover at fantastic speed<\/p>\n<p>If that means the chapters are shorter, so be it, as its easy to forgive a game that allows you to run at 200kph and punch robots in the face.<\/p>\n<p><em>Vanquish<\/em> takes high-intensity action to a new level for an\u00a0adrenaline-fueled romp that comes in at about 7 hours, and you&#8217;ll need to take a breath once you&#8217;re done.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Vanquish.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Vanquish.jpg\" alt=\"Vanquish\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vanquish<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Portal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Portal<\/em> was created as somewhat of a side-game to <em>Half-Life 2: Episode 1<\/em>, as the game came bundled in the beloved Orange Box, but Valve had no idea the cult status that the game would reach.<\/p>\n<p><em>Portal<\/em> tasks players to\u00a0navigate through a series of rooms using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device, or portal gun, to overcome obstacles and difficult puzzles.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s ingenuous, challenging, charming and simple, and even though you&#8217;ll wrap it up in a few hours (depending on your problem solving skills), there&#8217;s always <em>Portal 2<\/em> to take on next.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget that Steam&#8217;s modding community have created a huge assortment of additional levels and challenges to take on.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Portal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.menstuff.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Portal.jpg\" alt=\"Portal\" width=\"700\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Portal<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Have we missed anything?
