{"id":78901,"date":"2015-07-23T09:30:21","date_gmt":"2015-07-23T07:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=78901"},"modified":"2015-07-23T09:43:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-23T07:43:55","slug":"the-worst-modern-videogame-endings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/features\/78901-the-worst-modern-videogame-endings","title":{"rendered":"The worst modern videogame endings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A videogame ending is vital to its lasting appeal; it can make or break a great story, justifying the time invested in the game and\/or making way for a potential sequel.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, having worked for what he hope to be a great ending to an otherwise great game, we&#8217;re slapped in the face with what can only be described as a half-assed conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s nothing more frustrating than when a videogame&#8217;s developer completely jumps the shark during its conclusion, or when they just don&#8217;t bother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some of the worst videogame endings I&#8217;ve ever experienced:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Bioshock Infinite<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The worst ending in the history of gaming goes to <em>Bioshock Infinite<\/em>, for taking a simple, great and uncomplicated storyline, pouring gasoline on it and setting it on fire.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bioshock<\/em> was one of the greatest games I have ever gotten to experience, but when the ending came I wanted to submerge myself in a barrel of acid.<\/p>\n<p>Suffice it to say, any ending that requires a Google search is an unnecessary one. It&#8217;s convolution city with<em> Bioshock Infinite<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Finding out that there are multiple universes for everything, and different outcomes and all that complication \u2013 disaster.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MhjKW1S1xvk\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Assassin&#8217;s Creed (most of them)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I have not played a single <em>Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/em> game where I didn&#8217;t roll my eyes and breath out in exasperation as it concluded.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of every <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed <\/em>game, things get seriously complicated; there&#8217;s always a woman wearing a crazy over-the-top headdress, some mention of Gods and cheesy dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>So, now I play the games for their main story in the animus and pretend that the real world scenarios are not there at all. Who needs &#8217;em.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fu42CF4oMj0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Mass Effect 3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>What do you get when you have an ending so bad that you need to release DLC to fix it? You get the <em>Mass Effect 3<\/em> ending.<\/p>\n<p>After Commander Shepard\u2019s decision, you are treated to a short clip that shows you next to nothing about the characters or worlds you care about following the conclusion of the Reapers&#8217; invasion.<\/p>\n<p>After three games of investment, blood, sweat and tears, you get that. It&#8217;s disappointing to say the least.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y5ebN1dW9CA\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Crysis<u> <\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You know when you think there is a massive boss battle about to take place and it doesn\u2019t? Well that is what happens in <em>Crysis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Crysis<\/em> ends like there is supposed to be something more, something epic, like a giant alien is about to jump out of the water triggering another epic showdown.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we see the ship crash into the ocean and we fly away; yes, that just happened.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ruGZi8M3R6M\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Borderlands <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After about 50 hours of looting, shooting and recruiting, you would really expect more from the ending of <em>Borderlands<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You expect to enter the vault, to find the galaxy&#8217;s riches and come out stupidly powerful. The galaxy should be your oyster.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, you&#8217;re treated to a lengthy boss fight against the vault creature, followed by the most anti-climactic conclusion you could possibly imagine.<\/p>\n<p>Nope, you can&#8217;t enter the vault because the boss guarding it closed it in his defeat. Tough luck bud.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E06jF0Q7JO0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Final Fantasy XIII-2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I loved the <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> series, when the endings made sense; sometimes they did.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Final Fantasy XIII-2<\/em>, we are treated to yet another beautiful CG scene where we learn that Lightning is alive but evil, or something. I really don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>Then, suddenly, darkness starts spilling into the world and Sarah dies for some reason.<\/p>\n<p>The ending was unexplained and made the next entry in the series, <em>Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII<\/em>, even more complicated to understand.<\/p>\n<p>I know it\u2019s a JRPG, but I really hate having to Google a freaking ending. This is not how you do things Square Enix.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V94d4jidVag\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What video game endings completely ruined a game for you?
