{"id":79281,"date":"2015-07-30T15:00:31","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T13:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=79281"},"modified":"2015-07-30T15:05:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T13:05:25","slug":"the-worlds-first-4-ghz-ddr4-memory-module-courtesy-of-g-skill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/79281-the-worlds-first-4-ghz-ddr4-memory-module-courtesy-of-g-skill","title":{"rendered":"The world&#8217;s first 4 GHz DDR4 memory module: courtesy of G.Skill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DDR4 offers a fairly noticeable raw speed advantage over DDR3, something hallmarked by the speeds manufacturers have managed to reach of late; it\u2019s impressive stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Now, one of the leading memory manufacturers, G.Skill, has unveiled the world\u2019s first 4.0 GHZ DDR4 memory module family, Trident Z.<\/p>\n<p>Based on high-end memory chips from Samsung and in conjunction with custom-printed boards, those insane speeds were achieved on ASRock\u2019s Z170 OC Formula motherboard, but the memory modules should remain at those speeds on any capable motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>Designed to work with Intel\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/77664-intels-skylake-core-i5-6600k-and-core-i7-6700k-will-debut-at-gamescom-2015.html\" target=\"_blank\">soon-to-release<\/a> Skylake-S processors (which you can read more about <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/78456-intels-core-i7-6700k-skylake-up-to-29-faster-than-the-i7-4790k-devils-canyon.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/78829-intels-core-i7-6700k-skylake-overclocked-to-5-2-ghz-with-air-cooling.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/78883-i7-6700k-reaches-6-5-ghz-with-liquid-nitrogen-crushes-i7-4790k-in-synthetic-benchmarks.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and Z170 chipsets, G.Skill\u2019s Trident Z memory modules are not to be trifled with.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_79335\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/G.Skill-Trident-Z-Memory-Module.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79335\" class=\"wp-image-79335\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/G.Skill-Trident-Z-Memory-Module.jpg\" alt=\"G.Skill Trident Z Memory Module\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-79335\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">G.Skill Trident Z Memory Module.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Trident Z range will offer speeds between 2.8 GHz and 4.0 GHz, the latter of which will only be available in 8GB kits.<\/p>\n<p>More precisely: they will be available in dual-channel and quad-channel kits featuring 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. The highest-end modules are rated to run at 3600 MHz (CL17 18-18-38), 3733 MHz (CL17 19-19-39), 3800 MHz (CL18 20-20-38) and 4000 MHz (CL19 25-25-45).<\/p>\n<p>As stated above, you will not be able to purchase large capacity kits for the highest rated modules. In fact, from 3466 MHz to 3733 MHz are available in 8 GB and 16GB kits, while 3800 MHz and 4000 MHz are limited to 8 GB.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s likely because to achieve such high speed modules, G.Skill had to hand pick every chip that went into their development, meaning a limited supply.
