{"id":79601,"date":"2015-08-04T11:00:37","date_gmt":"2015-08-04T09:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=79601"},"modified":"2015-08-04T11:05:57","modified_gmt":"2015-08-04T09:05:57","slug":"intels-entire-skylake-cpu-lineup-has-its-pricing-leaked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/79601-intels-entire-skylake-cpu-lineup-has-its-pricing-leaked","title":{"rendered":"Intel&#8217;s entire Skylake CPU lineup has its pricing leaked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For as much as we\u2019ve harped on about the achievements of Intel\u2019s upcoming, top-of-the-line Skylake CPU, the i7-6700K \u201cSkylake-S\u201d, it\u2019s really Skylake\u2019s architecture that has impressed us most.<\/p>\n<p>The i7-6700K is an impressive piece of silicon, don\u2019t get us wrong, but it\u2019s got many of the same higher-level specifications as its predecessors: 8MB of cache, 4 and 8 cores and threads (respectively), and a 4.0 GHz base clock \u2013 we\u2019ve seen it all before.<\/p>\n<p>What makes the processor such a highlight for us is the microarchitectural refinements and improvements made to Skylake\u2019s silicon. And the Skylake family looks to pack a lot of additional punch as a result.<\/p>\n<p>But what are we going to have to pay for these improvements? The i7-6700K\u2019s $316 price tag puts it below the launch price of former high-end processors.<\/p>\n<p>The Core i7-4790K \u201cDevil\u2019s Canyon \u2013 Haswell\u201d and Core i7-5775C \u201cBroadwell\u201d were $339 USD and $377 respectively, for example.<\/p>\n<p>Sporting only microarchitectural improvements and lacking major manufacturing process changes, an industrial <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intel_Tick-Tock\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ctock\u201d instead of tick<\/a>, means Intel has had time to refine production of their chips and likely cheapen the process.<\/p>\n<p>If you aren\u2019t planning on waiting for <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/78620-intel-delay-their-next-gen-10nm-chips-moores-law-shaky-at-best.html\" target=\"_blank\">Intel\u2019s delayed 10nm Cannonlake chips<\/a>, then Skylake is the perfect family to upgrade to.<\/p>\n<p>But before you do, in spite of reasonable prices and a solid performance, we would suggest waiting for a few peer reviews.
