That\u2019s some pretty impressive specs<\/a>, but there\u2019s more to it than that.<\/p>\n The AMD Quantum is also engineered from magnesium and aluminium, and as a result, its bespoke chassis is as lightweight as it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It\u2019s an all-round fantastic piece of engineering.<\/p>\n The Quantum’s internals are almost entirely bespoke.<\/p><\/div>\n That\u2019s why we knew it\u2019d be rare. It was going to be helluva expensive to buy and difficult to produce on mass, or at least that was the prediction at any rate.<\/p>\n That exclusivity, in combination with unbelievable performance, has made it incredibly attractive to journalists, tech enthusiasts and the general consumer alike.<\/p>\n “The interest we got immediately after E3 was very high, from journalists and consumers and OEM partners,<\/em>” said AMD’s Richard Huddy.<\/p>\n Rather unfortunately, it now seems that AMD\u2019s little-PC-that-could may never see consumer-grade production at all.<\/p>\n “I don\u2019t know whether we have an OEM who is committed to building something like it. We built it as a concept PC, so like concept cars it\u2019s not usually practical to take it straight to market, that wouldn\u2019t make a great deal of sense. But it\u2019s not far from that.<\/em>”<\/p>\n Huddy is hopeful, but it\u2019s not guaranteed by any means. “I would think that if we have the right kind of conversations with some of these OEMs, then we might well turn it into a real product.<\/em>”<\/p>\n We need the Quantum to happen. Just imagine it as a Steam Machine<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n And even it does happen, it\u2019ll only be in very small numbers \u2013 it\u2019s not like we were predicting anything else.<\/p>\n At the moment, it\u2019s a concept PC, designed and built to attract attention to the R9 Fury series, and it\u2019s done a great job of that. But it\u2019s also a concept we\u2019d love to see put into development.<\/p>\n Just imagine what you could do with a PC that compact, while still so powerful.<\/p>\n “It\u2019s got a base of 10 inches by 10 inches and the total volume of the machine is just eight litres. A box as small as that could be one of the highest performing PCs on the planet. It\u2019s also because it\u2019s completely liquid cooled, it\u2019s going to be super quiet as well.
