We’ve known for a couple months now that NVIDIA is planning to release a couple lower-end Maxwell 2<\/a> GPUs; namely, the GTX 950 and 950 Ti.<\/p>\n

Their purpose is to provide Maxwell 2 powered alternatives to the GTX 750 Ti<\/a> and 750<\/a>, cards released in mid-February of last year \u2013 the GTX 960<\/a> being a significantly more expensive card by comparison.<\/p>\n

Until recently however, reports of a GTX 950 Ti have been nothing more than hearsay. The GTX 950’s specs and release date, August 17th, have for the most part been confirmed<\/a>, but the Ti variant has remained an enigma.<\/p>\n

It’s good news for those of you looking for an upgrade, particularly if you’re part of team green and would prefer to avoid AMD’s options, for whatever reason.<\/p>\n

Hermitage Akihabara<\/a> reports that NVIDIA still plans to release the Ti, but is still working on refining it at the moment.<\/p>\n

It’s pretty obvious that the GTX 950 Ti is set to fill the relatively large performance gap between the GTX 960 and soon-to-release GTX 950 \u2013 all three of which are based on the GM206 GPU.<\/p>\n

Here’s hoping that the GTX 950 Ti comes closer to the GTX 960 in performance and the GTX 950 in price, and not the other way around.<\/p>\n

All in all, lower end cards are where a good majority of the market resides, so NVIDIA really does need a solution or two.<\/p>\n
