Best known for creating the iconic Half-Life universe, as well as other critically acclaimed gems such as Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead and Portal, Valve is one of the most respected developers in gaming today. Oh, they also built Steam, which is by far the biggest digital games retailer in the world.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow the developer will be formally announcing its next big project via GameInformer<\/a>. Half-Life fans shouldn’t get excited though, because the announcement will bear news of Valve’s DOTA. What’s that you say? Defense of the Ancients (DotA) has been around for years as a free WarCraft 3 mod?<\/p>\n The problem was that the original DotA grew over the years to become one of the most played PC games in the world, and we just can’t have something that valuable out there, not owned by a massive corporate entity. So Valve, bless their shiny hearts, threw some money at the problem, and now owns the name “DOTA.” They also hired IceFrog, the anonymous developer who has maintained the WarCraft III version of DOTA since 2005.<\/p>\n It is thought that Valve will announce DOTA tomorrow, but there is much speculation regarding exactly how the game will eventually be released.
