{"id":80995,"date":"2015-09-07T14:00:30","date_gmt":"2015-09-07T12:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=80995"},"modified":"2015-09-07T14:20:11","modified_gmt":"2015-09-07T12:20:11","slug":"the-easter-eggs-of-metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/features\/80995-the-easter-eggs-of-metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain","title":{"rendered":"The easter eggs of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain<\/em> is the hottest game right now, and for <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/reviews\/80479-metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-review-rounup.html\" target=\"_blank\">good reason<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hideo Kojima has done exactly what he initially promised and crafted the ultimate <em>Metal Gear<\/em> experience.<\/p>\n<p>So with over 3 million units sold globally in less than a week, it&#8217;s hard to consider Kojima&#8217;s swansong anything but a success, particularly if you enjoy Kojima&#8217;s oddball humour.<\/p>\n<p><em>MGS V<\/em> stays true to the franchise&#8217;s rather random sense of humour, rooted in cameos from series past, quirky events, hidden gems and pop-cultural references.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s something Kojima has done with each <em>Metal Gear Solid<\/em> title, and <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/features\/80347-troll-king-kojimas-swansong-what-to-expect.html\" target=\"_blank\">something we expected of <em>MGS V<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having played through and thoroughly enjoyed some of the easter eggs we&#8217;ve discovered, we thought we&#8217;d compile a list funny events and objects seeded throughout the game.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Kojima Productions Poster<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/MGS-V-Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-Easter-Egss-Kojima-Poster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-80997 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/MGS-V-Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-Easter-Egss-Kojima-Poster.jpg\" alt=\"MGS V - Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain Easter Egss - Kojima Poster\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After all of the drama with Hideo Kojima and the studio dubbed Kojima Productions, it&#8217;s not surprising that we would see a hint at the studio responsible in-game, and not in the credits either, but a physical poster that looks like a movie poster to the prequel <em>Metal gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On this poster, found during the early hospital scene, you see <em>Ground Zeroes<\/em> Snake standing in the rain with the title \u2018Kojima Productions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This is typical Kojima, and another way in which he is shoving it in Konami\u2019s face after the split earlier this year.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>White Lilies<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MIrJtj6n3ss\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, the White Lilies you get a glimpse of in the earlier parts of the game, as a nurse rearranges them, are much more important than you think.<\/p>\n<p>The Whiten Lilies in the <em>Metal Gear Solid<\/em> franchise are the \u201cStar of Bethlehem\u201d lilies that were around during the final boss battle in <em>Metal Gear Solid 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Naked Snake kills the boss in a field of White Lilies, and the climax comes to an end in an emotional standoff.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Happy Birthday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IrQdDG5aQ5Y\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>At the start of the game, you are asked to enter your date of birth.<\/p>\n<p>This might seem pointless at first, given that it has very little to do with the game\u2019s story, but there is more to it. This is a Kojima game we are talking about.<\/p>\n<p>If your birthday happens to be the day that you play the game, you will be asked to return to mother base.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, you will hear alarms sounding and gunfire in the distance. Yes the base is under attack, or is it?<\/p>\n<p>What it really is, is a distraction so that the crew of your base might gather and present you with a cake.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a far better present than we expected, even if we weren&#8217;t actually expecting anything.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Quiet\u2019s Yoga<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ydxk2dQv1Kk\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After you recruit Quiet into your team by following the correct path in her mission, she will join you on missions as your &#8220;buddy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Quiet is an almost entirely naked companion who doesn&#8217;t just wear next to nothing but flaunts it too, whether on missions or at Mother Base.<\/p>\n<p>And if you thought that <em>MGS V<\/em> was being sassy before, then wait until you get your stare on.<\/p>\n<p>All you need do is take Quiet on a mission, which, having completed it and on the ride home via your helicopter, Quiet puts on quite the show.<\/p>\n<p>Overly exaggerated physics, we&#8217;re guessing you know what we&#8217;re referring to, yoga and very little clothing; it&#8217;s all so Kojima.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>P.T Reference<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i6CYb2zIRKc\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Remember <em>P.T<\/em>, the fantastically terrifying demo for <em>Silent Hills<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>With Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro at the helm, it was sure to blow us away. Rather unfortunately, <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/news\/74726-silent-hills-is-canned-del-toro-undoubtedly-wanted-kaijus-and-norman-reedus-a-crossbow.html\" target=\"_blank\">it was canned<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kojima, tenacious as he is, wasn&#8217;t going to let it go that easily and left some references to it in <em>The Phantom Pain<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>During Mission 20, in one of the tents you&#8217;re guided to by odd voices, you&#8217;ll find a familiar cassette and tape recording. The recording is from <em>P.T.<\/em> and is actually pretty creepy, as it describes a number of odd murders.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Hideo Kojima is once more in game<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ujCMqG9hSJw\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can recruit Kojima himself, if you really wanted to. And of course you do.<\/p>\n<p>In order to acquire Kojima as an agent, you can import your <em>Ground Zeroes<\/em> save data, which you should have uploaded when you completed the game.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, if you did not upload it or have yet to play <em>Ground Zeroes<\/em>, you can import also complete Side Ops Mission 112: Intel Agent Extraction and earn Kojima that way.<\/p>\n<p>He is rather skilled as an S-Rank Communications and A+ ranked R&amp;D Staff member, so place him however you wish.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Your Custom Avatar is everywhere<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/MGS-V-Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-Easter-Egss-Avatar-Reflection.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80999\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/MGS-V-Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-Easter-Egss-Avatar-Reflection.jpg\" alt=\"MGS V - Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain Easter Egss - Avatar Reflection\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Creating your custom avatar at the start of the game is not for nothing; it does have a point.<\/p>\n<p>If you think it was all for nothing, try taking a look out of the window as you sit in the helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>You will not see Snake\u2019s reflection as expected, but rather the reflection of your very own avatar.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Falling Boxes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mpjK4WBsbmM\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Early in the game, when you first get to Mother base and have yet to upgrade any facilities, you will signs that warm you against falling boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Where do these falling boxes come from? We have no clue, but surely there&#8217;s nothing to worry about \u2013 boxes don&#8217;t just fall from the sky.<\/p>\n<p>If you stand next to this sign for long enough, guess what? A box will fall from the sky and knock Snake to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s actually pretty funny, even if we thought that might happen.<\/p>\n<p>Have you come across any more easter eggs?
