For example, this is the CPU powering it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81017\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DGLees-SFF-PC-Xeon-E5-2699-V3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81017\" class=\"wp-image-81017\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DGLees-SFF-PC-Xeon-E5-2699-V3.jpg\" alt=\"DGLee's SFF PC - Xeon E5-2699 V3\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-81017\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Xeon E5-2699 V3 is one helluva CPU.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And this is what its Windows Task Manager looks like. No, you\u2019re not imagining things, that really is 36 threads at work!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81019\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DGLees-SFF-PC-Xeon-E5-2699-V3-Task-Manager-CPU-Threads.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81019\" class=\"wp-image-81019\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DGLees-SFF-PC-Xeon-E5-2699-V3-Task-Manager-CPU-Threads.png\" alt=\"DGLee's SFF PC - Xeon E5-2699 V3 - Task Manager - CPU Threads\" width=\"600\" height=\"497\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-81019\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">18 cores, all of which are hyper-threading enabled; that means 36 threads and a lot of processing power.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Entitled the \u2018Unprecedented High Density Teraflops Machine\u2019, it sports an <a href=\"http:\/\/ark.intel.com\/products\/81061\/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2699-v3-45M-Cache-2_30-GHz\" target=\"_blank\">Intel Xeon E5-2699 V3<\/a> processor. A CPU, we might add, that houses 18 cores (36 threads) clocked at 2.3 GHz (which can be boosted to 3.6 GHz) and 45 MB of L3 cache.<\/p>\n<p>This processor is very much a server-based part, but that hasn\u2019t stopped enthusiasts from implementing it into their builds, and for good reason.<\/p>\n<p>While Intel\u2019s top of the line enthusiast CPU, the Core i7-5960X, is capable of an impressive 768 GFlops. The Xeon CPU, on the other hand, produces 1.324 TFlops (1324 GFlops). But don\u2019t expect a CPU with 18 cores to come cheap.<\/p>\n<p>If the i7 \u2013 5960X will set you back <strong>R15, 981<\/strong> or <strong>R16, 659<\/strong> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeltech.co.za\/lga2011-3\/699-intel-intel-haswell-e-i7-5960x-300ghz-octo-core-lga2011-3-intel-haswell-e-extreme-i7-5960x-bx80648i75960x-300ghz-with-turbo-core.html\" target=\"_blank\">RebelTech<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wootware.co.za\/intel-core-i7-5960x-bx80648i75960x-haswell-e-3-ghz-8-core-socket-lga2011-desktop-cpu.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wootware<\/a>, respectively, so what do you think the E5-2699 V3 costs?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeltech.co.za\/lga2011-3\/10097-intel-intel-haswell-xeon-e5-2699-v3-230ghz-octadeca-core-lga2011-3-intel-haswell-xeon-e5-2698-v3-bx80644e52699v3-230ghz-turbo-bo.html\" target=\"_blank\">RebelTech<\/a> sells the CPU for, there\u2019s no getting around it, <strong>R70, 286<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And we thought the R9 Nano would be the affordability crutch of this build, apparently not.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the R9 Nano is set to sell at around the same price as the R9 Fury X; that means a price of between <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wootware.co.za\/powercolor-ax-r9-fury-x-4gbhbm-dh-4gb-hbm-4096-bit-pci-express-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html\">R10, 500<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.evetech.co.za\/PC-Hardware\/msi-radeon-r9-fury-x-1172.aspx\">R12, 000<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81021\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81021\" class=\"wp-image-81021\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/AMD-Radeon-R9-Nano-iyd.kr-DGLEee-Makeitnano-1.jpg\" alt=\"AMD Radeon R9 Nano - iyd.kr - DGLEee - Makeitnano (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-81021\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image courtesy of DGLee @ <a href=\"http:\/\/iyd.kr\/766\" target=\"_blank\">iyd.kr<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To top it off, the SFF PC uses three Toshiba Q300 Pro 256GB SSDs, a tough product to locate locally, but each would set you back around R3, 000 if they were to be sold locally. This is purely a guesstimation on our part, based on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shop.bt.com\/products\/toshiba-q300-pro-256gb-2-5--7mm-sata-6gb-s-ssd-BGH8.html\" target=\"_blank\">international pricing<\/a> and how inflation works once SSDs reach South African shores.<\/p>\n<p>And just by the way, with absolutely performance the goal of the Unprecedented High Density Teraflops Machine, the three SSDs are running in a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Standard_RAID_levels#RAID_0\" target=\"_blank\">Raid 0<\/a> configuration.<\/p>\n<p>That means that data is shared equally across all three drives as though they were a single unit; it\u2019s an array that considerably improves performance at the cost of, well, the price of three rather than one SSD.<\/p>\n<p>Throw in 16 GB (8 GB x 2) of DDR4 PC4-17000 RAM from Crucial, at around <strong>R1, 700<\/strong> if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeltech.co.za\/1866-2133mhz\/6944-crucial-crucial-16gb-kit-ddr4-2133-cl15-crucial-ct2k8g4dfd8213-16gb-2x-8gb-kit-ddr4-2133-pc4-17000-cl15-12v-288pin-unbuffered-li.html\" target=\"_blank\">RebelTech<\/a> is anything to go by, and you have one heck of a system.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81023\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Components-iyd.kr-DGLEee-Makeitnano-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81023\" class=\"wp-image-81023\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Components-iyd.kr-DGLEee-Makeitnano-1.jpg\" alt=\"Components - iyd.kr - DGLEee - Makeitnano (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-81023\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image courtesy of DGLee @ <a href=\"http:\/\/iyd.kr\/766\" target=\"_blank\">iyd.kr<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice a second R9 Nano, and DGLee did plan to use a dual card setup, meaning an additional 8.19 TFlops of performance, but the size of the case and the difficulty of obtaining the cable necessary to split the motherboard\u2019s PCI-Express lanes evenly in half made it too difficult to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are curious, DGLee used an AsRock ITX\u00a0EPC612D4I LGA 2011-3 motherboard, a four-channel mini-ITX motherboard with heck of a lot of appeal for anyone looking to build a powerful but small PC.
