{"id":81692,"date":"2015-09-28T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T02:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=81692"},"modified":"2015-09-28T04:02:30","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T02:02:30","slug":"nvidia-working-on-top-secret-dual-gpu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/81692-nvidia-working-on-top-secret-dual-gpu","title":{"rendered":"NVIDIA working on top-secret dual-GPU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s no secret that AMD is looking to take the GPU crown with their upcoming dual-GPU, the <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/81526-amd-readying-worlds-most-powerful-gpu-for-release-the-r9-fury-x2.html\" target=\"_blank\">R9 Fury X2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the raw compute power of two R9 Fury&#8217;s and given <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/78622-the-ultimate-4k-showdown-radeon-r9-fury-x-quad-crossfire-vs-titan-x-quad-sli.html\" target=\"_blank\">how well AMD&#8217;s latest GPUs scale<\/a>, even NVIDIA&#8217;s mighty GTX Titan X can&#8217;t compete with the R9 Fury X2 \u2013 it&#8217;s not even close.<\/p>\n<p>But if AMD thought NVIDIA was going to just lie down and let them take top spot, then AMD had better think again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/NVIDIA-New-York-Secret-Invitation-Dual-GPU-Announcement.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-81696\" src=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/NVIDIA-New-York-Secret-Invitation-Dual-GPU-Announcement.jpg\" alt=\"NVIDIA New York Secret Invitation - Dual-GPU Announcement\" width=\"600\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deep in their Skunk Works, NVIDIA has secretly been tinkering away with their <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maxwell_%28microarchitecture%29\" target=\"_blank\">GM200<\/a> GPU, the chip that powers their enthusiast-grade <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/76516-nvidias-gtx-980-ti-is-the-4k-gpu-for-you.html\" target=\"_blank\">GTX Titan X<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/73413-nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-x-price-and-performance.html\" target=\"_blank\">GTX 980 Ti<\/a>, and come to the conclusion that the best way to make a more powerful graphics card is to slap two of these bad boys together.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what a select number of press were told at a discrete press event in New York at any rate.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine, a single graphics card with the equivalent performance of two GTX Titan Xs. Heck, even two GTX 980 Ti&#8217;s, which are very nearly as fast as NVIDIA&#8217;s top-end monster, will do the trick.<\/p>\n<p>Their scaling isn&#8217;t quite as linear as AMD&#8217;s GPUs, but they&#8217;re noticeably faster. Tech<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, the press lucky enough to be told about NVIDIA&#8217;s new card were even granted samples, so we expect the card to drop soon \u2013 leaked benchmarks will probably drop even sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s just hope that, whatever this card is called, offers a worthwhile fight for AMD \u2013 competition makes everything better.<\/p>\n<p>More to the point, we&#8217;re hoping NVIDIA hasn&#8217;t made the same mistake as they did with the GTX Titan Z, the last dual-GPU they released.<\/p>\n<p>Big and beastly as it may have been, it wasn&#8217;t actually the fastest card on the block, those honours go to the Radeon R9 295X2, and it was nearly twice the price.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, even after a number of price cuts, you&#8217;d be lucky to find a Titan Z
