Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 3\u2019s<\/em> initial announcement<\/a> and subsequent announcement trailer<\/a> caught no one by surprise, but it did have us asking a few questions.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most pertinent question was whether Activision and, this time round Treyarch, would finally move on from the older consoles, or whether Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games were in the works.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t take long for a confirmation of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions<\/a>, even if the game has been optimised for the current-gen consoles.<\/p>\n

At the time, Activision said that they weren\u2019t ready to abandon \u201cfans that haven\u2019t made the transition to the new console.\u201d We now know that what they actually meant was that they weren\u2019t quite ready to give up the still quite profitable fountain of cash.<\/p>\n

The images above are screenshots of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3\u2019s<\/em> campaign, something we now know, as confirmed over on Call of Duty\u2019s<\/em> official community page<\/a>, won\u2019t be included.<\/p>\n

Much as you may have wanted it included, the reason for its removal is really quite simple:<\/p>\n

The Black Ops 3<\/em> PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s a right shame, but certainly understandable. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare<\/em> demonstrated the consoles\u2019 age throughout much of the campaign, as the game regularly seemed to hit resource limitations and more.<\/p>\n

Like with<\/a> Mortal Kombat X<\/em>, too much resources, time and effort is likely required to make the campaign run on the older consoles, and we\u2019d still expect a number of compromises.<\/p>\n

So to still deliver the best possible experience to older console owners, multiplayer as well as Zombie mode, now called \u201cShadows of Evil\u201d, will be included.<\/p>\n

After all, COD<\/em> has always been about multiplayer for a vast majority of gamers, and \u201cBeenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the Black Ops 3 gameplay as possible to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,\u201d so it should be good.<\/p>\n

One question then: why is the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game very nearly full price?<\/p>\n

$49.99 doesn\u2019t seem worth it when you\u2019re paying just $10 more for a much fuller experience on the current-gen consoles, as well as PC.<\/p>\n

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game also include a download code for the original Black Ops<\/em>, as though we don\u2019t all already own it.<\/p>\n

Seems like a rather cheap way to inflate the price of the game; Activision isn\u2019t losing a cent giving away a digital copy of a 5-year-old game. And how many of you who want Black Ops 3<\/em> for the highly competitive, frenetic multiplayer didn\u2019t buy the original game for the same thing?<\/p>\n

And if you already own the game, will Activision grant a discount instead? We doubt it.<\/p>\n
