{"id":8195,"date":"2010-10-26T09:52:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-26T07:52:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"blizzard-grumpy-about-valve-trademarking-dota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/8195-blizzard-grumpy-about-valve-trademarking-dota","title":{"rendered":"Blizzard grumpy about Valve trademarking DotA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Talking to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/2010-10-23-valve-shouldnt-trademark-dota-blizzard\" target=\"_blank\">Eurogamer<\/a>, Blizzard game design guy Rob Pardo apparently isn&rsquo;t too happy about Valve trademarking the popular WarCraft III mod, Defence of the Ancients, for its own sequel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To us, that means that you&#8217;re really taking it away from the Blizzard and Warcraft III community and that just doesn&#8217;t seem the right thing to do,&#8221; he says, describing his own reaction as &#8220;a little bit of confusion, to be honest. Certainly, DotA came out of the Blizzard community. It just seems a really strange move to us that Valve would go off and try to exclusively trademark the term considering it&#8217;s something that&#8217;s been freely available to us and everyone in the Warcraft III community up to this point.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Valve is usually so pro mod community,&rdquo; adds Pardo. &ldquo;It&#8217;s such a community company that it just seems like a really strange move to us&#8230; I really don&#8217;t understand why [they would do it], to be honest.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like trash talking to me.
