Well it’s official, for the US and North America at least; the\u00a0PS4 (typically\u00a0$399.99<\/strong> USD) will now go for $349.99<\/strong> USD\u00a0in the US starting\u00a0October 9th.<\/p>\n

This also applies to Canada where the price of the\u00a0PS4 will be reduced from $449.99<\/strong> CAD to $429.99<\/strong> CAD. This was all announced\u00a0on the PlayStation US Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Takealot<\/a>, the 1TB PS4 is currently retailing for R5, 999<\/strong>. So this price drop should bring this price down quite a bit\u00a0when we officially get news from PlayStation\u00a0South Africa.<\/p>\n

But this will only happen following the announcement of European pricing, so don’t get all hot and bothered yet.<\/p>\n

The news of a\u00a0price cut isn’t really that much of a surprise since it was announced in\u00a0Japan at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference <\/a>in September.<\/p>\n

Following this, on the 5th of October, US retailer Target accidentally leaked a price drop of its own<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shawn Layden, president and CEO of SCEA, had this to say about the price drop:<\/p>\n

All we can say is that we’re super excited to see a price cut for the PS4 happening. But we’re a tad worried about that we may not see the full benefits in South Africa due to high import taxes. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.<\/p>\n
