To do this we have turned to two of our favourite review aggregation websites, Metacritic and Gamerankings.

To put things in perspective the first Fable title released in September 2005 sits with a rating of 83/100 on Metacritic (PC, strangely there is no ranking for the Xbox version) and 83.48 percent on Gamerankings (Xbox). Fable II, released in October 2008, holds a rating of 89/100 and 88.27 percent on Metacritic and Gamerankings respectively, on Xbox 360 platform.

Fable III has been released on Xbox 360 with the PC version still awaiting a firm release date. Below is the current average score for the title at the time of publication.

Fable III on Metacritic – 81/100 based on 42 reviews.

Fable III on Gamerankings – 83.56% based on 18 reviews.

These scores place the game alongside similarly ranked games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Vanquish, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and Dead rising 2. One might deduce that Fable III is stacking up to be at least as good as the first two titles in the series, something that fans will probably be happy with.

Below we’ve featured an abridged selection of review opinion from a selection of websites. For the most part critics seem impressed with the title, but there are a few complaints about the gameplay features that have been changed or remain unfixed from previous titles. Stay tuned to MyGaming to catch our own review of the title.

CVG – 9.2/10

“Fable III is a game of two halves. The first 50 per cent is the best traditional fantasy questing, combat levelling and villager-farting the series has ever delivered. The second is even more exciting; arguably the best sim Peter Molyneux’s produced in his career. And this is the man who created Populous we’re talking about. And when we’d finished the most cinematic, inventive and thoroughly entertaining Fable yet, we were left wanting a whole lot more…”

Gameinformer – 9.0/10

“The writing is top notch, and there are at least three or four quests that rank among my favorite missions I’ve ever played. From raising a family, becoming a land baron, and even partnering up with friends locally or online, this is the most fully realized version of Albion yet. It’s a must-play for fans of adventure or anyone who thinks they can run things better than those bums in Washington.”

Gametrailers – 8.9/10

“It’s easy to recommend Fable III to anyone who enjoyed the second game. It’s very similar, but the story is stronger, the decisions you make have more gravity, the coop is vastly improved, and the design forces you to sample everything the game has to offer.”

Joystiq – 4/5 stars

“If you were concerned that Lionhead’s mandate to streamline the game was at odds with how much content you managed to extract out of Fable 2, you may have been right. Fable 3 doesn’t strive to introduce new mechanics but is instead pre-occupied with fixing and streamlining existing ones. While it’s puzzling to watch so much effort go into streamlining Fable 2’s already superb design without fixing its obvious technical shortcomings, try not to let that distract you from what remains an exceptional game. It may not be revolutionary, but it is royally fun.”

Eurogamer – 8/10

“The irony of the breadcrumb trail, sometimes mocked for sparing you the difficulty of thinking, is that it’s often harder to stay focused on it than it is to wander off and play. Everywhere you go you’re tempted by the siren call of previously unnoticed footpaths, strange sights and eerie noises. Many more RPGs will follow between now and whatever Lionhead does next with the series, but few if any will possess half as much heart, and most importantly, whatever else they have to offer, none will have Albion.”

The Escapist – 4/5 stars

“Fable 3’s gripping story keeps you charging forward, eager to find out what happens next, while its cheeky sense of humor takes the edge off the coming storm. Its voice acting and stunning imagery create an Albion that feels like a real place, with real people. And then one of the game’s many bugs slaps you in the face and ruins everything.”

Destructoid 5.5/10

“Fable III isn’t a bad game; it’s just very disappointing. Lacking the sense of adventure of the previous games and making the most simple of elements more awkward and overdrawn, it feels like a step back for the franchise. It’s a shame, because its narrative goals are truly outstanding and there’s still a lot of simplistic role-playing fun to be had. These positives are outweighed, however, by a downsized sense of scale, cumbersome attempts at innovation, and a total neglect when it comes to fixing some important problems. Not only has Fable once again failed to live up to its promise, it’s gotten further away from it than before, and that’s an incredibly frustrating shame.”

Discuss Xbox 360 Fable III review scores on the MyGaming forum.

Related Articles:

Fable III image gallery

Fable III launch trailer

Fable III boasts Hollywood all-star voice cast

[20

post-8215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-features
["GET
