{"id":82626,"date":"2015-10-20T12:30:38","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T10:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=82626"},"modified":"2015-10-20T12:37:58","modified_gmt":"2015-10-20T10:37:58","slug":"sa-developed-broforce-launches-to-brolliant-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/82626-sa-developed-broforce-launches-to-brolliant-reviews","title":{"rendered":"SA developed Broforce launches to bro-lliant reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-summary\">\n<p>South African game development studio\u00a0Free Lives Games have been hard at work on their bro-mazing shooter, <em>Broforce<\/em>, for quite some time.<\/p>\n<p>And after a successful Early Access period through PC game distribution platform Steam, <em>Broforce<\/em> has been unleashed in its final form, and critics are loving it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As for some background on the game itself, <em>Broforce<\/em> puts players in control of \u201can under-funded, over-powered paramilitary organization dealing exclusively in excessive force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This side-scrolling action game is reminiscent of the likes of <em>Contra<\/em>, but instead of some generic joes, you get to play the game as a number of bro-infused heroes, like Rambro, Brommander, MacBrover and Bronan the Barbarian.<\/p>\n<p>The game also features a co-op component for up to four players, upping each level\u2019s potential for explosive chaos. Each level ends with a ceremonial raising of the American flag and a quick escape via helicopter as explosions erupt below. Classic.<\/p>\n<p>It all sounds good, but what have the critics been saying?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_loRDrWCv10?rel=0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>International gaming website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/2015-10-19-broforce-review\" target=\"_blank\">Eurogamer<\/a> gave\u00a0the \u201crecommended\u201d stamp of approval by the editor. They said: \u201cFrom its generous amount of content to its deliriously engaging gameplay, this is a game that is smarter than it looks, knows what it wants to do and achieves it in the biggest, silliest way possible. Flex and enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.escapistmagazine.com\/articles\/view\/video-games\/editorials\/reviews\/14801-Broforce-Review-Free-Lives#&amp;gid=gallery_4878&amp;pid=1\" target=\"_blank\">The Escapist<\/a> described the game as: \u201ca silly, but sincere love letter to iconic action movies, refined to perfection with rich environments and wonderfully-crafted enemies. Even when you\u2019re killed by an out-of-control explosion which you triggered, you\u2019ll be having an absolute blast with this game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Broforce<\/em> has also got some impressive comparisons to some great games of yesteryear thanks to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.videogamer.com\/reviews\/broforce_review.html\" target=\"_blank\">VideoGamer<\/a>\u2018s Steven Burns. \u201cImagine <em>Contra<\/em> meets <em>Kid Chameleon<\/em> via <em>Super Meat Boy<\/em>, with a touch of Sensible Software\u2019s irreverence, and you\u2019re there.
