Capped ADSL is a popular connectivity option among South African Internet users who have a rough idea of how much data they will use on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n
The benefits of capped ADSL, besides knowing how much data you have to use each month and how much it costs, is that Internet service providers typically do not shape or throttle capped accounts.<\/p>\n
Capped accounts also benefit from bonus or free data when the ISP\u2019s network is not busy \u2013 usually between midnight and 06:00.<\/p>\n
MyBroadband<\/a> decided to examine the various capped ADSL accounts on offer by South Africa\u2019s ISPs, detailing who offers what when it comes to bonus data benefits.<\/p>\n For the article, we looked at an ISP\u2019s standard 100GB capped account \u2013 or the closest offer to the 100GB mark \u2013 and detailed what data benefits come with it.<\/p>\n The capped data allocation can be used at any time during the month, and depleted depending on what you view and download online.<\/p>\n The free additional data which ISPs offer, usually in the early hours of the morning, does not affect the standard cap\u2019s data allocation.<\/p>\n OpenWeb\u2019s\u00a0100GB capped ADSL<\/strong>\u00a0account sells for\u00a0R329 per month,<\/strong> offering unlimited data<\/strong>\u00a0usage\u00a0between midnight<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a006:00<\/strong>\u00a0every day.<\/p>\n MWEB offers capped clients free Night Time data and uncapped Wi-Fi at MWEB hotspots when they sign up.<\/p>\n The ISP\u2019s\u00a0100GB<\/strong>\u00a0ADSL<\/strong> account\u00a0includes 100GB<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0night data<\/strong>\u00a0for use between midnight<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a006:00,<\/strong>\u00a0with free access to MWEB\u2019s Wi-Fi hotspots available to those who purchase a\u00a0Fon-enabled router.<\/p>\n Price:\u00a0R399 per month.<\/strong><\/p>\n Webafrica\u2019s capped ADSL accounts are advertised with\u00a0night data<\/strong>\u00a0included in the total data cap description.<\/p>\n Its\u00a0450GB<\/strong>\u00a0account sells for\u00a0R299 per month,<\/strong>\u00a0and includes\u00a090GB<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0anytime data<\/strong>\u00a0and 360GB<\/strong>\u00a0of data for use\u00a0between midnight<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a006:00.<\/strong><\/p>\n Crystal Web offers clients unlimited\u00a0free Midnight Express<\/strong>\u00a0data for use between midnight<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a006:00<\/strong>\u00a0on its\u00a0100GB<\/strong>\u00a0package \u2013 which costs\u00a0R279 per month.<\/strong><\/p>\n Afrihost does not offer bonus or after-hours data on its capped accounts, and instead sells them as \u201cdouble data\u201d products.<\/p>\n Its\u00a0100GB<\/strong>\u00a0product is advertised as a\u00a050GB + 50GB free data<\/strong>\u00a0account, which sells for R199 per month.<\/strong><\/p>\n As with Afrihost, Axxess advertises its capped ADSL accounts as double data products.<\/p>\n Its\u00a050GB<\/strong>\u00a0account includes an additional\u00a050GB<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0anytime data,<\/strong>\u00a0and is priced at\u00a0R189 per month.<\/strong><\/p>\n Telkom\u2019s capped ADSL accounts are SoftCap data products, which means that once your data limit is reached you are not cut off from the Internet. Instead, your line speed is slowed to a fraction of its capability.<\/p>\n Telkom is currently offering a double data special, too. A\u00a050GB<\/strong>\u00a0account receives an additional\u00a050GB<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0anytime data,<\/strong>\u00a0and includes unlimited\u00a0free Night Surfer data <\/strong>between\u00a0midnight<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a007:00.<\/strong><\/p>\n Price:\u00a0R269 per month.<\/strong><\/p>\n Cybersmart\u2019s capped ADSL packages come with a\u00a0Night Rider add-on option, which gives users additional night time data for a small fee.<\/p>\n Its\u00a0100GB<\/strong>\u00a0capped account\u00a0costs\u00a0R399 per month.<\/strong>\u00a0By adding\u00a0Night Rider<\/strong>\u00a0for an additional\u00a0R25 per month,<\/strong>\u00a0users receive\u00a0five times<\/strong>\u00a0their\u00a0data cap<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 500GB in this case \u2013 for use between\u00a000:30<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a007:00.<\/strong><\/p>\n Note<\/strong>: Your ADSL line has to be managed by Cybersmart for you to be eligible for this deal.<\/p>\n Vox\u2019s Fat Pipe capped packages do not offer bonus data, but\u00a0unused data rolls over <\/strong>to the following month \u2013 for use at any time.<\/p>\n The data which rolls over does not have an expiry date, but a user\u00a0cannot accumulate more than six times<\/strong>\u00a0their\u00a0monthly cap<\/strong>\u00a0in total data.<\/p>\n If you have a\u00a0100GB<\/strong>\u00a0account \u2013 which costs\u00a0R249 per month<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 you can accumulate a total of 600GB, which can be used as long as you are subscribed to the service.<\/p>\n Free data between midnight<\/strong> and\u00a006:00<\/strong> every day is also included.<\/p>\n Cybersmart\u2019s 200Mbps fibre connection will cost a meagre R599<\/a><\/p>\nADSL bonus data deals in SA<\/h3>\n
