Following Steam\u2019s migration to the use of our local currency<\/a>, the Rand, for South African users of the digital distribution platform, it was noted that a number of games are no longer purchasable.<\/p>\n

Valve has said that it should be a temporary issue, one easily solved the moment those games are priced locally, in ZAR, but no dates were given.<\/p>\n

According to Valve, \u201cNo changes have been made to the contents of your library. All of the languages and features in the games that existed when the store was priced in USD are still available.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s reassuring to know that it doesn\u2019t affect any of our currently owned games, and perhaps even more fortunate for Valve that it hasn\u2019t seem to have affected Fallout 4<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s safe to say that if we had lost access to Fallout 4<\/em> owing to the migration, however brief the loss may have been, we would not be happy gamers \u2013 we may very well have broken out the proverbial pitchforks and torches.<\/p>\n

We can guarantee the list is quite a lot larger than that, and it\u2019s more than likely that any franchises that contain the games mentioned above will be affected entirely.<\/p>\n

Fallout 4<\/em> remains unaffected while Fallout 3 <\/em>and Fallout: New Vegas<\/em> are, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.<\/p>\n

Fortunately there are no major Steam sales going on at the moment, not unless you count the Steam Machine Sale<\/a>. It’s hardly a large sale by Steam’s standards, but it does contain some solid titles. Also, all of them are available for purchase in SA.<\/p>\n

Speaking of which, we hope for Valve\u2019s sake that this issue is solved by the time Steam\u2019s inevitable Christmas Sale hits.<\/p>\n

And is anyone scratching their head at Desktop Dungeon<\/em>, a South African game’s, unavailability? Other local hits like Broforce<\/a><\/em> and STASIS<\/em><\/a>, on the other hand, are ready and waiting for you to pick them up. And trust us when we say that they’re well worth a purchase<\/a>.<\/p>\n
