Some video games have players aimlessly wandering around looking for quests, shooting anything that moves, or focusing on your own personal gain.<\/p>\n

Others put the people first, and throw you into the shoes of a revolution-sparking hero or heroine that\u2019s sole goal is liberation.<\/p>\n

With the Just Cause 3<\/em> having just released<\/a>, we thought we’d take a look at 5 characters that made liberation adventures\u00a0tick:<\/p>\n

Rico Rodriguez (Just Cause series)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Rico<\/p>\n

When it comes to liberating countries from tyrannical leaders, Rico Rodriguez is your man.<\/p>\n

Fighting out of the covert section of the CIA simply known as \u2018The Agency\u2019, Rodriguez is a master of many skills and has an endless amount of tricks up his sleeve.<\/p>\n

This skydiving and rappelling daredevil isn\u2019t afraid of getting dirty, leaping off cliff-sides and blowing up a few things to rustle the feathers of the regime.<\/p>\n

Alec Mason (Red Faction: Guerilla)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Alec<\/p>\n

The Red Faction<\/em> series has become known in the gaming world for providing inspiring tales of rising up against oppression, as well as helping push the boundaries in terms of destructible environments in games.<\/p>\n

Red Faction: Guerilla<\/em> took the jump from an FPS to a third-person action-adventure game, and put players in the role of Alec Mason \u2013 a miner who who\u00a0assists the Red Faction to overthrow the oppressive Earth Defense Force (EDF) on Mars.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t get much bigger than fighting for your life on a distant planet \u2013 but Mason had a serious grudge against the EDF for killing his brother, not to mention\u00a0a hammer that could cause some serious damage.<\/p>\n

Jason Brody (Far Cry 3)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Jason<\/p>\n

There have been some silent yet enjoyable protagonists in the Far Cry<\/em> series to date, but Far Cry 3<\/em>\u2018s Jason Brody is an undoubted favourite.<\/p>\n

Brody is the ultimate fish-out-of-water after his tropical vacation is turned into a nightmare scenario, seeing his friends murdered and being forced to embrace a new savage and survivalist part of himself.<\/p>\n

Jason goes from shocked tourist to fearsome warrior throughout the course of the game, swearing vengeance on the admittedly awesome villain of Vaas<\/a> and his pirate outlaws in order to save his (remaining) friends as well as assist the natives in taking back their island.<\/p>\n

Robert Jacobs (Homefront)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Homefront\"<\/p>\n

Homefront<\/em> wasn\u2019t the great Call of Duty<\/em>-killer that it was touted to be, but it was pretty intense, heart-wrenching tale, taking massive inspiration from the 1984 film Red Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Featuring likeable and tough-as-nails hero in the form of former helicopter pilot,\u00a0Robert Jacobs, Jacobs joins a band of guerilla fighters in a\u00a0dystopic United States that has been invaded and controlled by the\u00a0Greater Korean Republic (basically a North and South super-Korea, if you will).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s pretty harrowing seeing the oppression and brutality in the game and playing as Jacobs as he\u2019ll do anything to save his \u2018Murica.<\/p>\n

Faith (Mirror\u2019s Edge)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Faith<\/p>\n

Mirror\u2019s Edge<\/em> is a game about free-running, but it\u2019s also a game about freedom of expression and standing up to an oppressive government.<\/p>\n

The crime-free\u00a0utopian city that is underlyingly subdued by the regime in power becomes Faith\u2019s playground in Mirror\u2019s Edge<\/em>, as unmonitored communication is a big no-no in the city.<\/p>\n

Faith is a fantastic catalyst for the revolution, as her\u00a0attitude towards the totalitarian government is rooted in her past; her parents were active in protest movements when she was young, campaigning to keep the city from shifting to the oppressive regime.<\/p>\n

Faith uses her skill and elusiveness to always be one step ahead of the government forces.<\/p>\n
