Regardless, its futuristic spaceship engineering isn’t enough for Polyphony boss and Gran Turismo 5 lead designer Kaz Yamauchi, who claims the hardware held back the game’s potential.

“Software has to be created under the restriction of the hardware,” he told the latest issue of Esquire UK. “With each new PlayStation, the vessel has become bigger, but it’s still not enough. With Gran Turismo 5 we’ve made it as clean and beautiful as possible within the confines of the space we’re given – but of course there’s a lot more that we want to put in.”

There’s a lot more he wants to put in? Perhaps it’s a good thing the PS3 has hardware limitations, or fans would be waiting another three years for the game. Earth to Yamauchi – it’s just a bunch of cars, honestly.
