{"id":84337,"date":"2015-12-09T16:30:02","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T14:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=84337"},"modified":"2015-12-09T17:14:07","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T15:14:07","slug":"ps2-games-we-want-to-see-on-ps4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/features\/84337-ps2-games-we-want-to-see-on-ps4","title":{"rendered":"PS2 games we want to see on PS4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Sony\u2019s recent, <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/ps4\/83673-why-hasnt-sony-told-anyone-that-the-ps4-now-supports-ps2-games.html\" target=\"_blank\">albeit quiet<\/a>, announcement that the PS4 supports PS2 backwards compatibility, we couldn&#8217;t help but imagine the possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re not talking about the remakes and remastered re-releases, we&#8217;re talking about those games that have seemingly been forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the best PlayStation 2 games that we want to be playable on PS4, <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/ps4\/84149-you-will-have-to-repurchase-ps2-games-to-play-them-on-ps4.html\" target=\"_blank\">even if Sony&#8217;s going to force us to buy them again<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Bully<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you had to compare <em>Bully <\/em>to any <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> title, you&#8217;d find that there are some stark differences.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not at all the violent, sadomasochistic crime simulator you&#8217;ve come to associate <em>GTA <\/em>with.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bully<\/em>, more often than not, will\u00a0 have you wondering about in a reindeer jersey, riding your trusty bicycle or visiting the local town.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/88KNf0MtU14\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In fact, <em>Bully<\/em> was less about causing havoc in your boarding school, and more about saving it from the bullies themselves.<\/p>\n<p>That said, it had everything you could even want from a game made by Rockstar, like slingshots, stink bombs and a set of some kick-ass melee moves.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Ape Escape 2 &amp; 3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Before that ridiculous PlayStation Move<em> Ape Escape<\/em> title released on PS3, there was a full-fledged <em>Ape Escape<\/em> franchise, complete with gripping worlds, exploration and lots of monkey catching.<\/p>\n<p>The series was at its peak by the time <em>Ape Escape 3<\/em> came around, with two playable characters, over 150 monkeys and Spectre\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/odTwt4cuHhg\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Ape Escape 2<\/em> introduced the Freaky Monkey Five, a gang of, you guessed it, five monkeys that joined Spectre to take over the world.<\/p>\n<p>They, along with their unique powers and abilities, formed a monkey army; the result was one of the best experiences on PS2.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ape Escape 3<\/em> took place in a world where the apes had taken over television, airing programming that turned everything, well, bananas \u2013 excuse the pun.<\/p>\n<p>Players would visit movie sets that resembled real life Hollywood scenarios, and hilarity ensued.<\/p>\n<p>The game saw the return of the Freaky Monkey Five and, of course, the evil monkey, Spectre.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to play the series again as it is one of Sony\u2019s best franchises. It&#8217;s pity they abandoned it after the lacklustre <em>Ape Escape Move<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Every Grand Theft Auto game<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xlu5jR6QMtk\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There was no doubt that the PS2 era was home to the best in the <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> series, <em>Grand Theft Auto III<\/em>, <em>Grand Theft Auto: Vice City<\/em> and <em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>To play the <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> games on PS4 would be great.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/ps3\/84105-gta-san-andreas-hd-arrives-on-ps3.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas <\/em>may have had a re-release to PS3<\/a> recently, but we want <em>GTA 3 <\/em>and <em>Vice City<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Psychonauts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Playing as Raz, a psychic, you are sent to the Whispering Rock Psychic Camp where you are confronted with the dreams and nightmares of the residents of the camp.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s here that you grow your powers as you face the the many weird, wild challenges and worlds, each unique to the dreams of a particular individual.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/md_8uDtbffQ\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The game was developed by Double Fine and had everything we love about their sense of humour and twisted character design.<\/p>\n<p>Created on a measly budget, the game proves that money cannot buy good game design; it&#8217;s all about the passion and love for what you do.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Star Ocean: Till the end of Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iuZzvRIj4Vw\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Talking about good RPGs, <em>Star Ocean: Till the end of Time<\/em> was one of the best on the PS2.<\/p>\n<p>It followed the traditional <em>Star Ocean<\/em> premises of intergalactic space travel, spanned around 80 hours in length and offered some seriously addictive combat.<\/p>\n<p>I remember it being one of the few games on PS2 to feature multiple discs, it had that much content.<\/p>\n<p>It looks a bit dated, granted, but it will still hold its own on PS4 because it plays brilliantly.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Final Fantasy XII<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If one <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> game has gotten the least attention and love since launch, it&#8217;s <em>Final Fantasy XII<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve had nearly every <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> title re-released on Steam, remastered and released on a newer platform or has been made playable on PS Vita; even <em>Final Fantasy X<\/em> received a remastered release on both PS3 and PS4.<\/p>\n<p>But poor <em>Final Fantasy XII<\/em>, the loner of the g<em>roup,<\/em> was only ever released on one console, the PS2.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wvfsGPudMos\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I would really love to play <em>Final Fantasy XII<\/em> again on PS4, and enjoy its unique approach to the franchise once more.<\/p>\n<p>The game was a true entry into the series, with some great characters and a combat system like no other before and since.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s got intrigue, sky pirates, betrayal, romance and a lot of interesting mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also part of a much larger collection of Square Enix titles, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ivalice\" target=\"_blank\">Ivalice<\/a> Alliance, and well worth your time.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>TimeSplitters 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4g96xcBtQ1w\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I remember spending countless hours playing split-screen battles on <em>TimeSplitters 2<\/em>; it was truly a remarkable shooter.<\/p>\n<p>It borrowed elements from the exquisite <em>Golden Eye<\/em> and introduced drop in\/out gameplay to FPS games, a first.<\/p>\n<p>It was just so well executed that it&#8217;s hard not to love <em>TimeSplitters 2<\/em>, as easily one of the best PS2 shooters to ever grace the console.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a pity, then, that the series has been missing for some time now, and the PS4 would be the perfect home for a sequel. For now, however, we&#8217;ll settle for <em>TimeSplitters 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a few games that I would love to replay on PS4.<\/p>\n<p>The list could go on forever with the addition of <em>Suikoden V<\/em>, <em>Crash Twinsanity,<\/em> <em>Persona 4<\/em>, <em>Onimusha<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Silent Hill 2<\/em> and more.<\/p>\n<p>What games would you play on PS4 as part of Sony\u2019s PS2 movement?
