After the Oculus Rift\u2019s price was announced<\/a> alongside pre-orders, a hefty $599<\/strong> (R9, 500<\/strong>), gamers were understandably upset. And then it got a little bit worse.<\/p>\n

PlayStation 4 gamers, undoubtedly revelling in the misery of the PC elite, were only too happy to point out that their virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR, would be more affordable\u2026 until it wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, market analysts suggested that PS VR would cost between $400<\/strong> (R6,450<\/strong>) and $600<\/strong> (R9,671<\/strong>)<\/a>, which was a bit of a bitter pill to swallow.<\/p>\n

Without an official confirmation or more information to support the analysts, many are passing it off as merely a prediction, which it is.<\/p>\n

Now, however, Amazon Canada has listed the PlayStation VR<\/a> and priced it at $1, 125<\/strong> Canadian (or about $800 <\/strong>American), which is R12, 900 <\/strong>locally. They have removed the price since, but it\u2019s still something to ponder.<\/p>\n

Not to damper PlayStation fans\u2019 expectations even more, but Forbes<\/a> managed to get a reply from Sony regarding the recent listing. Sony, rather worryingly, didn\u2019t deny the price.<\/p>\n

Instead, Sony said: \u201cThis was an error by Amazon, we haven\u2019t announced price for PlayStation VR.\u201d That\u2019s not exactly denying the price, now is it.<\/p>\n

We know capable VR tech isn\u2019t cheap, and the addition of a processor box<\/a> doesn\u2019t help the PS VR\u2019s cause, but $800 seems a little steep.<\/p>\n

Not only is that $200 more than the Oculus Rift, a superior VR headset on paper, but it\u2019s twice the price of the console itself. Here\u2019s hoping it\u2019s an error.<\/p>\n
