The event not only causes time to start breaking down, but also grants the three main characters – Jack Joyce, Beth Wilder and Paul Serene – the ability to manipulate time.

The third-person shooting looks solid, and we’re truly curious about the story, but having a tie-in show could disjoint the experience completely. Remedy have enough talent behind their name to deliver something great, but we just hope this isn’t a one-trick time-bending pony that ends before it gets going.

Hitman: Episode 1 – March 11

(Xbox One, PS4, PC)

After years of development, Square Enix and IO Interactive have decided to completely change the format of their highly-anticipated Hitman release, going from a fully-fledged game to an episodic adventure… and this worries us.

We’ve been extremely excited to take our favourite bald-headed, barcoded assassin into some pretty complex murderous conundrums, with massive open environments filled with possibilities, but having to wait for the next instalment (or worse: pay for it) has taken a bit of wind out of our sails.

Let’s hope we’re wrong and Agent 47 makes a celebratory return to the gaming world.

Far Cry Primal – March 1

(Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Most could have predicted a new Far Cry would be released in 2016, but nobody could have seen the game’s concept coming.

Far Cry Primal takes the series back to the Stone Age – stripping away the automatic weapons and focusing on the player’s relationship with the world around them. Sabre-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths and other frightening creatures of old will be hunting you down, but there’s a twist: you’ll be able to control them too.

It all sounds pretty alluring, but we’re wondering if it’ll all get a bit stale too quickly. While we applaud Ubisoft from diverging away from the predictable first-person shooter archetype, but we can’t help but to feel there’s something missing from this prehistoric adventure.

Tom Clancy’s The Division – March 8

(Xbox One, PS4, PC)

While we’re excited, any game with overwhelming ambition will inadvertently make us nervous for its quality, and none are coming more ambitious than Ubisoft’s enormous undertaking, The Division.

We’ve seen developer walkthroughs, but now we want to get our hands on the game to see if The Division‘s post-apocalyptic open-world New York lives up to the hype.

Also, the community will make or break this game, and if people play ball and there’s enough fresh and veteran players roaming The Division, it’ll make for an interesting experience. If not, things could get very lonely in New York once the campaign is over.

No Man’s Sky – June

(PS4, PC)

What we haven’t had in a while is an intriguing-looking space exploration title. In No Man’s Sky, you can explore a near-infinite number of worlds on your journey to the centre of the universe, mapping out planets as you go. The game is massively multiplayer in a sense, and any world you discover will proudly display your tag.

There’s an unlimited amount of places to discover in No Man’s Sky, but we wonder if the random planet generation will have the legs to keep players interested. Like the randomised gun system in Borderlands, it’ll definitely throw some different licks of paint in the opening hours, but will you inevitably see through the veil once you hit the real meat of the game?

Feature originally published on MenStuff.co.za.

You might also be interested in

Good riddance to video game pirates

5 FPS games we can’t wait to play in 2016

Cliche battle mechanics we’re tired of

[20
7103,16030,10523,749,11828,10068,10299,1157
post-85425","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-features","tag-far-cry","tag-far-cry-primal","tag-features-2","tag-hitman","tag-no-mans-sky","tag-quantum-break","tag-the-division","tag-video-games
["GET
