No one is expecting the PlayStation 4\u2019s virtual reality (VR) headset, the PlayStation VR, to be cheap — it comes with its own additional processing box<\/a> and the optics it uses are still pretty cutting edge stuff.<\/p>\n

You can imagine, then, that those eager to buy into virtual reality were a little shocked to hear that Amazon Canada listed the PlayStation VR headset at $1,125<\/strong> Canadian<\/a>, or about R13,000<\/strong> thanks to the tanking Rand.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s an outrageous cost; we can\u2019t imagine Sony ever charging that much, and thankfully the price was pulled.<\/p>\n

Analysts predict<\/a> a more reasonable price range between $400 and $600 American, and early adopters are almost certainly cheering for the former.<\/p>\n

Now, listings by a few European retailers, the prices and screenshots of which can be found on a NeoGAF forum<\/a>, suggest the headset will cost between \u20ac450<\/strong> (R8,300<\/strong>) and \u20ac500<\/strong> (R9,200<\/strong>). That\u2019s not exactly cheap.<\/p>\n

No one saw the Oculus Rift\u2019s price<\/a> coming, even in spite of what many retailer listings were suggesting, so this is far from a confirmation.<\/p>\n

That said, we don\u2019t imagine the PlayStation VR is going to cost significantly less given what\u2019s going into it.<\/p>\n
