The words used in Steam\u2019s most recent changelog, published subsequent to a February 3rd<\/sup> update, are a little vague, but should change up the chat experience many have on Steam.<\/p>\n

The change in question can be found below:<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve yet to have time to test out this particular change, mostly because to do so would be a little creepy, but it sounds like it would prevent you from chatting to someone you encounter over a game of, say, Dota 2<\/em>, should you have had a lot of fun.<\/p>\n

Unless they accept your friend request, a matchmaking encounter over a public server isn\u2019t enough to validate a chat message, and it seems like Steam will block it.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s difficult to discern because there\u2019s an odd bit of grammar used in the update: \u201ca friends, game server, or multiuser chat relationship with you\u201d. Do they mean \u201cfriend\u2019s<\/strong>\u201d or \u201cfriends\u2019<\/strong>\u201d?<\/p>\n

The change is understandable given the harassment that can be had on Steam, but will also make finding new friends a little more difficult, which is actually a nice aspect of Steam.<\/p>\n
