Every so often one feels the pangs of nostalgia. Those pangs frequently lead us back to the classics lining our shelves, classics we could not bear to part with. So, instead of playing the same old game yet again, why not utilize some crazy game changing modifications – even better, why not try a few total conversions? <\/p>\n

Here are some worthwhile modifications to sink your virtual teeth into. <\/p>\n

Note: Some of these modifications may require supporting patches and other modifications. The supporting files are usually listed on the site itself alongside the official mod itself.<\/em><\/p>\n

Fallout 3 – Wanderers Edition<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will need to register with them, but it is quick and easy<\/p>\n

Size – 357mb roughly (3 files)<\/p>\n

The Fallout 3 Mod, Wanderers Edition, is a culmination of over 50 mods with the intention of making the Fallout 3 experience a more challenging and dynamic one. <\/p>\n

Some of the features include:<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Faster combat pacing with more emphasis on player skill. <\/p>\n

– Deeper character development and RPG experience where S.P.E.C.I.A.L skills and perks have greater impact.<\/p>\n

– Numerous new items as well as rebalancing of old weapons and armor.<\/p>\n

– Slower experience gain.<\/p>\n

– Rebalance of existing perks and skills with brand new ones.<\/p>\n

– Improved Karma system with greater impact and meaning.<\/p>\n

– and TONS more!!<\/p>\n

Sure Fallout: New Vegas is the cool kid on the block right now, but Fallout 3 still has so much to offer. Check this mod out once you are done with New Vegas. <\/p>\n

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Nehrim<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size – 1.6gigs + 70mb patch<\/p>\n

Nehirm – At Fate’s Edge, is a total conversion mod for Oblivion that was in development for more than four years. <\/p>\n

Nehrim places greater emphasis on the Roleplaying rather than the action aspect found in Oblivion. A suggested 50hrs of gameplay is featured within, and there are over 60 quests to keep you entertained. <\/p>\n

A slew of newly voiced dialogue has also been introduced with the help of 56 professional voice actors working on the project. There is also a fresh new soundtrack to compliment the vision for Nehrim.<\/p>\n

If you wanted more of a traditional RPG experience from Oblivion, then this might just be your mod.<\/p>\n

Half-Life 2 – 1187 Episode 1 (requires Orange Box)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size – 1.2gigs + 122mb patch<\/p>\n

1187 is a prequel story in the Half-Life universe. In 1187, the developers went on to illuminate some of the events between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, prior to earth being taken over as seen in Half-Life 2.<\/p>\n

1187 makes a great tie-in for anyone looking to further their Half-Life experience.<\/p>\n

S.T.A.L.K.E.R – S.T.A.L.K.E.R Complete 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size – 700mb<\/p>\n

This mod does not change the core gameplay or the story of Stalker all that much. It rather opts to enhance and add functionality to existing gameplay elements while, at the same time, improving the technology and matching today’s standards with vastly improved graphics. <\/p>\n

Some of the features include:<\/p>\n

– Improved day \/ night transitions <\/p>\n

– Increased weather cycling, new storm types and improved weather animations<\/p>\n

– Wet surfaces and textures during rain<\/p>\n

– Utilizes Shader Model 3.0<\/p>\n

– Motion Blur, Depth of Field<\/p>\n

– A particle system<\/p>\n

– Tweaked and improved A.I.<\/p>\n

– and MUCH more!!<\/p>\n

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Complete 2009 is certainly worth a try if you are a fan of the original.<\/p>\n

Diablo II – Median XL<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size – 126mb<\/p>\n

Median XL is a total conversion mod for Diablo LoD which includes new skill trees, creating a whole new experience for any longtime Diablo II fan.<\/p>\n

Much has been changed from the gear which has been reworked with 7 quality tiers, 480 uniques, 310 runewords, crafting recipes and much, much more. Also included are new areas and “uberquests” for the masochist in you. Monster A.I has also been improved, offering more challenge to meet the new and powerful skills.<\/p>\n

If you cannot wait for Diablo III, and are looking for a good fix, try Median XL – it should tide you over.  <\/p>\n

Arcanum – Polished Carcanum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Size – 23mb<\/p>\n

Here is a really old game but, for some balance, (and, in fact, I highly rate it) I have included a great mod for it. <\/p>\n

The Carcanum, or the Hard Arcanum mod, revamps and adds much to the original game’s content. It features many new and revamped areas, as well as brand new companions, items and quests. Carcanum offers a greater challenge for those looking for it and is not for the faint of heart.<\/p>\n
