Since its launch earlier this month, modders have taken the thing apart, put it back together, and bolted it onto a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=dRPEns8MS2o\" target=\"_blank\">Roomba<\/a> in what might well be told of in some not too distant future as the first tragic mistake in precipitating a Terminator holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Microsoft responded to this stuff with threats of legal action, saying they didn&rsquo;t &ldquo;condone the modification of its products&rdquo; and would &ldquo;work closely with law enforcement and product safety groups to keep Kinect tamper-resistant.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Realising, perhaps, what a stupid, utterly futile claim that was, the company has since 180ed and embraced the Kinect modder community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Anytime there is engagement and excitement around our technology, we see that as a good thing,&rdquo; Craig Davidson, senior director for Xbox Live at Microsoft, told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/22\/technology\/22hack.html?_r=1&amp;amp;scp=2&amp;amp;sq=Kinect&amp;amp;st=cse\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a>, pretending none of that stuff about prosecuting people for mucking about with Kinect ever happened. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s na&iuml;ve to think that any new technology that comes out won&rsquo;t have a group that tinkers with it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He added, however, that the company would continue to monitor future developments, and that any modification that violates Microsoft&rsquo;s terms of service or &ldquo;degrades the experience for everyone is not something we want&rdquo;.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Kinect, you are the hacker<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":161,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-8667","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-xbox"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8667","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/161"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8667"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8667\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8667"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=8667"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=8667"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
