Remember when Sony told us that the PS4 would eventually support remote play for PC<\/a>? It appears that Sony’s promise was more than a mere marketing ploy.<\/p>\n

Remote play for PC will, indeed, be coming to the console, and sooner than anticipated.<\/p>\n

PS4 to PC remote play will allow PC owners to stream their favourite PS4 games from their PlayStation 4 to the player’s very own PC via an official app.<\/p>\n

This functionality makes its way to PS4 as part of the upcoming\u00a0V3.50 update for the console.<\/p>\n

Streaming of games will occur\u00a0over a user’s home network to their PCs. The process is considered to be very similar to what can be done with the PlayStation Vita.<\/p>\n

Microsoft\u00a0already offers a streaming feature. However, it’s limited to Windows 10 and official Xbox app users.<\/p>\n

The release date for the PS4’s\u00a0V3.50 update isn’t yet certain, but Sony has begun beta testing a few of the features listed as part of the\u00a0update.<\/p>\n

Some of these other features include online friend notifications and allowing users to ‘appear offline’\u00a0when using PSN.<\/p>\n

Improvements to party chat are also expected, and you’ll soon be able to see what all your friends are actually playing. Not only that, but you’ll finally be able to join other players in the party.<\/p>\n

An update for the PS4’s ‘Share’ function is in the works as well. This particular update\u00a0enables streaming to the video sharing website DailyMotion.<\/p>\n

To be perfectly honest, more than anything else we’re most excited about the possibilities of PS4 to PC remote play.<\/p>\n

It’s a feature that has been missing from the PS4 for some time and should help put the PS4 on par with the Xbox One, in terms of overall functionality.<\/p>\n

All Sony needs to do now is add proper external hard drive support to the PS4.<\/p>\n

If the Xbox One makes it super easy to install games to an external hard drive, why can’t the PS4 follow suit?<\/p>\n
