Talking to Kotaku<\/a>, EA’s John Riccitiello has revealed the company’s plan to stage a dramatic coup in the multiplayer FPS arena. And it’s a simple enough one. “Make a better game,” he says, “And make a better game again.”<\/p>\n

That better-game-again would be Battlefield 3. “I think it’s interesting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 got the same Metacritic score as Black Ops,” he explains. “Our next game [Battlefield 3] is being built on the second generation of Frostbite which I think is – at least in my opinion – is a class act for FPS. I think we’re going to lift the game pretty dramatically in the first-person shooter category. I have great expectations to do a lot better in 2011 than in 2010 on the strength of a couple of products like Bulletstorm and Crysis [2], but most importantly for us, Battlefield 3, which I feel incredibly good about.”<\/p>\n

Scientists who know stuff agree that Battlefield: Bad Company was one of the best games released this year, but can Battlefield 3 out-match whatever zillion-dollar Call of Duty Activision pushes out next year? A few months ago, gamers might’ve backed Battlefield 3, but with Black Ops reintroducing dedicated servers and a pretty terrific multiplayer component, the temporarily reviled franchise is getting a lot of love again. In a perfect world, perhaps, EA and Activision would team up and make Call of Battlefield. Or Battlefield Duty. Or whatever it takes to bring Rush mode and the RC-XD together at last.<\/p>\n
