{"id":8871,"date":"2010-12-06T14:33:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-06T12:33:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"treyarch-gets-serious-about-black-ops-cheats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/8871-treyarch-gets-serious-about-black-ops-cheats","title":{"rendered":"Treyarch gets serious about Black Ops cheats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Treyarch community manager Josh Olin has recently been posting comments about the cheaters and boosters which plague Call of Duty: Black Ops.<\/p>\n<p>Olin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.callofduty.com\/board\/viewtopic.php?f=70&amp;t=341470 4 \" target=\"_blank\">identified<\/a> different types of CODBLOPS trouble makers:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Modders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users who have modified their hardware and have run hacked script or code. This includes modifying profile data to use illegal characters in a player&rsquo;s name.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Instant permaban. You will no longer be allowed to play the game online. Console users who modify their hardware or profile data will also be reported to the console manufacturers.<br \/><strong><br \/>Boosters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users who organize to exploit the game for the explicit purpose of ranking up very quickly or to appear in a high position on the leaderboards.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Minor offense: Temp ban, complete stats reset, leaderboard entries removed once<br \/>&bull; Major offense: Temp ban, complete stats reset, permanent ban from appearing on the leaderboards<br \/>&bull; Extreme or repeat offenses: Permaban from playing the game online<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glitchers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users who go out of their way to exploit the game to grief other players. An example would be going outside of the map&rsquo;s clearly defined playable boundary.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Minor offense: Temp ban from playing the game online<br \/>&bull; Major offense: Extended temp ban from playing the game online<br \/>&bull; Extreme or repeat offenses: Permaban from playing the game online<br \/><strong><br \/>Offensive emblem makers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users who create emblems that are sexually gratuitous or racially offensive. <\/p>\n<p>&bull; Minor offense: 2-week ban from using the emblem editor, emblem reset to default, emblem purchases wiped<br \/>&bull; Major offense: Permanent ban from using the emblem editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Not content to simply identify the subtle variations of pond scum that inhabit the game, Olin then posted an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.callofduty.com\/board\/viewtopic.php?f=73&amp;t=350386&amp;sid=5thaba94gm3a0f18cllg3fpmn1\" target=\"_blank\">announcement<\/a> that a player rank audit was incoming.<\/p>\n<p>Like Blizzard&rsquo;s recent announcement that they will also be singling out StarCraft II hackers, we have to applaud the move by Treyarch.
