Still, the conclusion of the Ezio Auditore story arc, fun gameplay and the compelling multiplayer mode warrant giving the game a nod for 2010.

Heavy Rain – 2.41%

Heavy Rain is perhaps one of the most contentious games of the year, in terms of critical praise and general gamer reception. Some critics loved it, some didn’t. The sentiment was echoed by gamers. Still, the developer Quantic Dream pushed the envelope on storytelling and gameplay delivery, and for this its gets a mention, but only 2.41% of the vote.

Gran Turismo 5 – 3.09%

Another late arrival on the scene, GT5 was every car sim fan’s dream date, and for the most part, critics agreed that it was generally laudable for its technical achievements. The game was however slightly marred with a sloppy interface, clumsy online game mode implementation and a lack of polish on the vehicles and tracks ported from previous GT titles.

Other – 5.5%

Ah, other games – that is to say, games not specifically mentioned in the poll. We all love to play other games, and fittingly, the other games earned 5.5% of the vote.

Call of Duty: Black Ops – 7.04%

It’s seemingly very difficult to stop the megalithic momentum of the Call of Duty franchise. Black Ops blew every other game out of the rice paddy in terms of unit sales revenue. Great news if you’re a shareholder in Activision Blizzard, but not so much if you’re a gamer on the bug ridden glitch-fest end of the equation. Despite its numerous flaws at launch, the game has plenty of fun to offer, and looking past that, MyGaming readers gave it 7.04% of the vote.

God of War III – 8.58%

The Magnum Opus of the God of War series raised the bar in almost every way. The visuals were stunning, the gameplay pure distilled ‘fun,’ the scale delivered with the cinematographical pizzazz of a blockbuster movie, and the sheer Kratos driven brutality. The whole thing was so brilliantly pieced together that one could easily overlook the underlying simplicity of it all. Thus, 8.58% of MyGaming readers gave it their vote, making it their PS3 exclusive pick for 2010.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – 12.2%

The Battlefield franchise has been overshadowed by the success of Call of Duty over the last few years. A travesty, considering how great the series typically is, exemplified by 2010’s Bad Company 2. MyGaming’s readers know what they are talking about though, and this is likely why Bad Company 2 has beaten out Black Ops as their pick for the multiplayer shooter of the year.

Red Dead Redemption – 15.12%

AKA GTA: Cowboys and Indians, but it was actually so much more. Red Dead Redemption offered up a compelling open-world romp through the Wild West, complete with skinable coyotes and lassos.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty – 20.96%

One of the most highly anticipated games of 2010, and a PC exclusive to boot. StarCraft II reinvigorated the RTS genre and proved that Blizzard hadn’t forgotten how to make a game that isn’t World of WarCraft. StarCraft II rightfully earns a place as the number two title for 2010, and is our readerships’ PC game of the year.

Mass Effect 2 – 23.2%

BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 set a new standard for cinematic story driven role-playing games, all within BioWare’s unique sci-fi universe. Mass Effect II hit all the right notes: stunning graphics; superb voice acting; a deep, rich and compelling storyline; a refined (and fun) combat system; an emotive soundtrack; and NPCs one could actually grow fond of. We can forgive BioWare the clumsy sex scenes and frustrating resource harvesting mini-game.

MyGaming’s readers have selected Mass Effect 2 as their game of the year, giving it 23.2% of the total vote.

Thanks for voting – here’s looking forward to a fantastic year of gaming in 2011.

Discuss MyGaming’s readership Game of the Year picks on the MyGaming forum.

[20

post-9025","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-features
["GET
