The top ten finalists of #HackJozi 2016 have officially been announced.<\/p>\n
The #HackJozi Challenge is a project of the City of Johannesburg and the JCSE<\/a><\/strong> (Joburg Centre for Software Engineering) at Wits University.<\/p>\n Ravi Naidoo, executive director for Economic Development<\/a><\/strong> for the City of Johannesburg, says they were overwhelmed not only by the number of entries to the 2016 #HackJozi Challenge but also by their quality.<\/p>\n \u201cThe 2016 shortlist of ten finalists is an impressive list of young people with new and innovative ideas in the digital arena. After a rigorous process that has been playing out over the past six weeks, we now have ten superb businesses which have fought through three rounds of the competition and have been judged on the technical feasibility of their venture, scalability and the wow-factor,” said Naidoo.<\/p>\n “A demo day will be held on Friday, 13 May<\/strong> when all ten tech-preneurs will present their ideas that they have thrashed out with their peers and mentors during the course of the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n The top 10 will enjoy a one-year free membership of the ICT Hub in Braamfontein, which is a Wits University initiative under the leadership of Professor Barry Dwolatzky.<\/p>\n The top three winners of the 2016 #HackJozi Challenge will be announced on Thursday, 19 May 2016.<\/p>\n The winner winner will be given R1 million<\/strong> while the two runners up will each receive R350,000<\/strong>. In addition, all three teams will be assigned a business mentor so as to advise them on how to spend the money and further develop their ideas.<\/p>\n A mobile application that looks to connect tutors with students for\u00a0tutoring services.<\/p>\n A tool for parents to address screen-time issues with their children and\u00a0their Android devices.<\/p>\n An online marketplace where the demand for sound, pragmatic, and\u00a0sustainable advice by businesses is matched to the supply of high\u00a0quality business experts from South Africa\u2019s top business schools and\u00a0business consultancies.<\/p>\n LCERT (Low Cost Educational Robotics Toy) Kit, which includes hardware,\u00a0software and activities.<\/p>\n A pickup and drop-off of laundry service that ensures that clothes are\u00a0cleaned and dry-cleaned to the highest standards.<\/p>\n Building an online platform which aims to automate the functions of a\u00a0traditional financial advisor.<\/p>\n An integrated online due-diligence portal, available on multiple\u00a0platforms and designed for all property sector stakeholders.<\/p>\n An online platform on which building plans and other related\u00a0documentation can be uploaded and\/or downloaded for the purposes of\u00a0obtaining building approval from local authorities.<\/p>\n This system prepares and automatically marks multiple choice questions.\u00a0Advanced features are being offered to educational institutions to\u00a0analyse and report on the information.<\/p>\n Smart lockers that reduce the average waiting time for patients\u00a0collecting chronic medication at primary healthcare collection facilities.<\/p>\n The biggest movie releases this week<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Acer reveals insane Predator PC, gaming laptop and monitor<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
